1995 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup LS / 2 WD from North America - Comments

23rd Aug 1998, 00:00

What things have gone wrong with the car?

-Right front suspension squeaking.

-Water leaking through top of doors.

-Drivers door panel came off.

-Leather peeled off off steering wheel.

-Rear speakers came loose & rattled.

-Universal joint had to be replaced.

-Differential is currently receiving new gears, etc., at the dealership due to R/R axle noise.

General comments?

This truck was purchased new in August 1995. It has been highway & city driven. 67,000 Kilometers are on the odometer.

Judging by the problems I've experienced with this truck, Chevrolet has yet to get their act together. I originally intended to by an S-10 ZR2 4WD. Now I'm glad I didn't. All cars can experience problems from time to time, but my experience has been ridiculous. Never, ever will I consider buying a North American vehicle again. The dealership has fixed the problems but I had to fight in order to get replacement transportation while my truck was in the shop being repaired. Extended powertrain warranties aren't always a bad investment.

Your review seemed honest and accurate. I have purchased a new 2001 Chevy S10 pickup with extended cab and 4.3 liter engine, 5 speed automatic trans. I have experienced the same minor proplems and have had to have the differential parts replaced twice before 11600 miles. The ball joints never were greased and the differential failure was due to lack or no gear oil both times. I still have road noise from the rear axle and now have to buy need two new tires because the front alignment was never done and both the right tires have severe chopping. The dealership said that over 10.000 miles aligment is not covered, yet they charged for inspection and maintenance service and didnot see this during a 6000 mile and 11000 mile tire rotation. My truck has never hauled more than four bags of groceries and has not been over 70MPH.

I am from western Oklahoma and own a 1995 s-10 blazer. It currently has 167,000 miles. I have never replaced anything, but the tires, air filter and oil. Sorry to hear of your troubles, but my s-10 Blazer is a super vehicle and it's 4 wheel drive. I drive it like a idiot and she keeps going.

I own a 98 Blazer ZR2 which was purchased brand new. It currently has 140K on it & I have been happy with it so far. Aside from the battery/tire/oil/tuneup/etc. general maintenence things there has only been one problem (leaking transmission seal which was under warranty at about 20K miles). I will say that these vehicles are notorious for going through ball joints and idler arms fairly quickly. I am on my 2nd set & almost ready for a third (its worse on a zr2 than a regular blazer). I have been extremely happy with this vehicle due to the amount of abuse it has taken. I don't offroad often, but I have pushed the vehicle quite hard and I can say I have gotten every pennys worth out of the ZR2 suspension.

180,000 miles on my S-10 2wd 5spd truck other than normal maintenance I put pinion bearings and a u-joint in it. oh yeah a blower motor last winter as well. LOL!

I race a motorcycle at the drag strip all summer long and tow the bikes with the truck. Yeah the truck has had the crap beat out of it on the strip as well LOL!!!

It ran 16.62 at 84 mph with the air cleaner lid upside down.
