1995 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe from North America - Comments

"A lemon at best"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Three Days after I purchased the car, the head gasket blew. Eleven months later the head cracked. A year and 4 months later the head gasket blew again. Many people have the same problem with the Sunfire.

General comments?

The Dealership where I purchased this car, is known as DAVIS PONTIAC of Richboro, Pa. They are rude and will not help you. People are gathering together to form a class-action suit against General Motors. This is one of the worst cars and biggest mistakes I've ever made. Even when I took the car to the dealership to be repaired, it was done sloppily and incorrectly.

These cars are JUNK!!! I traded mine (1996 Sunfire 2-door SE) in for a 1977 Trans-Am plus $4000 CDN Cash! Best trade I ever did.

I don't know why the Pontiac Sunfire has so many bad reviews. I have a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire 4-door SE and it runs great.

I also had a 1997 Pontiac sunfire and it broke all to pieces right after the 50,000 warranty was up. I would like to know more about this law suite as I have been trying this for years. Also they are very rude everywhere and like to make cheap cars for more business.

My 95' Sunfire's head gasket just failed for the 3rd time. The dealership assured me that the last repair would solve the problem. Obvously this is a design problem that cannot simply be fixed with a gasket replacement. The time between the last gasket replacement and failure was a meager 10 months.

Hello people, I have a 1995 SUN FIRE GT. I am the second owner of the car. Itw as in an accident before I bought it used at a local dealer. I knew going in that it has the left front 1/4 replaced and the air-bag was replaced.

I got it back in October of 1999 it has 56,000 miles on the Odometer and running great. I had to do a clutch replacement (normal being it was the original) in late 2000. It now has 133,000+ miles STILL running GREAT. I am very pleased with it.

You guys are all crazy. I have a 95 Sunfire that I am the third owner of and it runs fabulous. I just put some neons inside and out of it and I am looking into some more things. You just need to learn how to treat your cars then complain. General Motors is the best ever!

This car stinks bad. I have had 3 recalls and I get a constant rotten egg smell. It's real noisy when you drive it a while. I get a heavy clunk when I pull out. bought it at 34,000 miles I have 74,000 on it now. It goes through brakes like crazy.

I also own a '95 Sunfire with head gasket problems. Can anyone tell me more about the class action that owners are planning against Pontiac? Please post the details here! I was never notified of the repair program, and now that the program has ended Pontiac won't help me, even though my vehicle would have fully qualified to have the repair expenses reimbursed.

I bought my 95 Sun fire brand new. I now have 285,000kms on it. Mind you it has lasted this long because I have maintained it religiously. Although it has provided me with reasonable reliabilty I will never own other GM product again. There have been too many little nickle and dime problems that I have had to deal with. These range from a driver-side mirror that vibrates at highway speed to a cracked head and head gasket failure at 180,000kms (and is now beginning to show signs of failure once again). My lastest problem deals with the head-light switch which has been replaced six times. Yes six times. The dealership refuses to either properly trouble-shoot the cause or they simple do not have the technical ability to do so. I assume it is a ground fault and now it is draining the battery. The seating is uncomfortable and it provides poor visibility for the driver. On the otherhand, it is a nice looking car and actually handles quite well with 215/65/14 tires not to mention andit does handle well in snow conditions with winter tires. All I can say is, good luck because there seems to be a inconsistency in the quality. I got what I paid for!

I own a Pontiac Sunfire purchased way back in 1995. Yes that right in 1995, it now has on it 404256 kms. I bought it brand new and I'm the only one who has driven it. The current year is 2006 April the 7th and lets just say the car is still driving fine. But not all of my years were good with this car, now for the bad things. Two Head gaskets, faulty horn, faulty wiring traced back to signal arm, faulty termostat, and I can't forget front suspension control arm damage. All of the noted problems were paid out of my own pocket. Lets see who gained the Dealership and GM. I currently use synthetic oil and get my car serviced by Mr Lube in Mississauga Ontario. With God on my side and a good prevenative maintenance belief, I will push the boundaries with my car to see how far I can drive it till it can't be driven no more. But then again you must wonder why, why give a car company props who coundn't care less about me or the other millions of other people who own there vehicles and takes proper care and maintenence, but likes to gouge us with bougus parts and shady service. Well to prove one thing, and that is it can be done by simply anyone willing to treat there car with respect. Maybe they can learn a thing or two in that department. Just build a quality car with quality pats and I promise you people will keep coming back for more of the same. In closing General Motors has scared me forever, not in the physical sense, but in the sense that I no I will never ever ever buy another GM car for as long as I shall live. They simply do not need my money it should seem because if they did they might of done a better job in convincing me otherwise. Boy isn't karma just a weird thing, the biggest manufacturer in the world building only lets just say not cars, but problems for themselves. I think foreseer Toyota Motor Company has the right idea. Is it a coincidence that the Japanese market share exploded why because they pride themselves on quality not quantity and also every customer counts, the who spends 25k or the the one who spends 50k on there cars. Point is we all matter to them why because someone who is unhappy will probally never give a return visit, therefor that is future lost earnings and that is the big picture GM fails to see a million or two million unhappy customers wow just do the math on potential car sales they just lost...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

How can you say GM is junk, when you say your sun fire is still ticking away to this day with so many miles on it? Yeah it needed a head gasket etc. but that is not uncommon with cars, they all need some kind of repairs.

I heard that the 2.3 Quad4 engine were really good. As for the rest, they were crap. My dad has a '95 Sunfire GT with well over 250km and still running strong. Later, they replace the 2.3 with a 2.4 engine which were also good as well. As for anything under the GT model, they were simply problematic. Only a few got away with a good, decent car.
