I have had numerous problems with this car. While driving down the road, my lights will come on for no reason, the check engine light comes on and then the car will jerk until it dies. I have had the car in the shop so many times with no satisfactory solution to my problems. I would never buy another car from Chrysler. I am convinced that we purchased one of their many "lemons" that the company produces. I am now waiting to see how corporate feels about my purchase after the letter I just wrote them. I would do anything to unload this piece of junk.
I am sorry we ever traded in a perfectly good car for this one.
The 1999 Concorde is a roomy, good-looking car. That's about all the good I have to say about it. I have been back to the dealer 5 times to have power windows fixed, twice on the driver's side! Twice, I had to go back because the heating system controls did not work. That's pretty bad in -20 degree weather! The latest calamity is that I had to replace rotors and pads on all four wheels at 29,000 miles! Although there was plenty of material left on the pads, they rusted and scratched the rotors. That little job cost me $800 on what I consider to be a new car. I also had to replace all 4 tires because of premature wear. I have that awful feeling that I am in for other unpleasant surprises.
1994 Chrysler Concorde. Frequently the CHECK ENGINE lights up. The gear indicator moves to L. The gas light, lights up.
I've had a sensor replaced & all of the above continues to occur. Lately now, when I start the car, absolutely no lights come on indicating the gear position, airbag, nothing. Then the airbag light remains on. I will drive around the block just to test everying and then park the car and turn off the ignition. When I turn it back on, everything appears normal. Any suggestions or cures?
I've leased a chrysler concorde 1999 and had the engine rebuilt at 34,000 miles. When the lease was up we purchased the concorde, we felt the car should last since the heads and timing chains and tensioners were replaced. Now, the motor stop running again at 59,000 miles. Chrysler corp. feels they do not half to cover the engine to be rebuilt again. The dealer stated to us it is no fault of ours, what happen is that the chain guide broke causing the chain to slip and brake cuasing the pistons to hit the valves. Anyone with engine problems with the 2.7 liter engine Email us at CAF1010@aol.com we also had friends that had the problems similar to us. we are trying to establish a list of people with the engine problems. So anyone that can help email us.
Thank you

I have a 1998 Concorde with 73,000 miles. I have changed oil on a regular basis every 3,000 miles. The week before christmas with no warning in just quit running, no oil light or any other warning. Service department said engine needed replaced. Cost not to exceed $7500.00. After looking for simalar problems on the web I have found that the 2.4 engine has a sludge build up problem. The dodge Intreped is also having the same problem. Chrysler is currently doing nothing about this problem. If anyone knowes of a possible recall or assistance on repairs. Please let me know. My beauty is sitting in my driveway DOA.
Well looks like a lot of people are having the same problem with the 2.7 leter engine. I have talked with a couple of dealers and with Gasper Engines and they have told me that there is a "Big" problem with the 2.7 with sludge build up and then lock up. I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. And last week the engine locked up with no warning. only 74,000 miles. I was told it was my fault do to oil change. I did do the oil change every 4000 miles. But after investigating further I am finding out that more people are having the same problem. my email is proftim@bellsouth.net if anyone wants to use me in a "Class Action " law suite are any other. please feel free to contact me. I am just beginning with gathering information on what to do in this case. But my car is DOA at the dealer. Any comments??
I have a Chrysler Concorde 1999, 2.7 liter. The last time I had the oil change I was told there was a deposit on and around the oil cap indicating sludge. The car has 50,000 miles and I can see a major problem coming. When I start the car there is white / blue smoke coming out, sometime the heater takes a while to go hot and at time I have seen a major cloud of white smoke when compressing. I am told by the dealer that I should flush the engine, but I am afraid this might create more problems if the sludge gets dislodged. If anybody can help please let me know.
I am the proud owner of a 1999 Concord. I have one more year to pay on it, and now have to pay out another $6,000 for a new engine. the car has only 39,000 miles on it. I did the required oil changes. I went to my mechanic he told me to take it to the dealer, because Chrysler is having a problem with the 2.7 liter. The dealer looked at it and said I did not keep the oil changed.SLUDGE!I called my mechanic he said to bring the car back to him. Needless to say it cost me $245.00 to get the car from the dealer! When I took the car to my mechanic, he proceeded to tell me the problems with the engine. You ready for this? The oil pump is to small, the pickup tube has two sharp bends, sending and return holes are to small, the pistons are of poor quality and there are 16 freeze plugs in the heads that have a tendency to rust and leak coolant into the oil which will cause problems. He said to replace it with a Jasper. Chrysler buys engines from Jasper, they won't use there own replacement engine. The sad part of my story is, I talked my wife into buying this car. She took on a second job to save money for our 25th anniversary this year. The only place we are going is out to the garage to admire the new engine!

The facts are, I've seen lots of sludged up 2.7 motors, the problem is, they haven't been taken care of, we have a person whom works with us, with a 2,7 liter motor, now that has 20,000 miles on it, the motor is so clean, you could eatoff it, I plan on posting pictures of this motor when it hits 30,000 miles, the problem is in your care of the car, period.
My 1999 Concorde 3.2 is the best vehicle I've ever owned. No problems except for normal wear and tear. I guess the 2.7 just isn't the way to go.
I own a 1998 Chrysler Concorde 2.7 with 98,000 miles. The oil and filter have been changed every 3,000 miles. I have never had a problem with the car.
My wife and I purchased a 1999 Chrysler Concorde on April 19,2003. On August 15, 2003, it would not start. On August 18, a repair facility informed us we had a SERIOUS problem with the engine, which is the 2.7 liter. We bought the car with just over 32,000 miles, and the mileage when it stopped is 37,121. The repair facility that pointed out the problem does not even want to touch it, because they feel they cannot guarantee the work. They say the engine is defective. Because the dealer offered us a sorry warranty, we purchased one from an outside company. A number of places, including Chrysler dealerships don't want to be involved. I am not happy with this product at all!!!
For the past 2 years, my boyfriend has spent about $6000 on repairs to his 1999 Chrysler Concorde. So far this month, $2,500. He is now visiting the mechanic on a weekly basis. If he doesn't get rid of that car, we will be engage less for the rest of our lives. The car is just a money eating machine.
Shame on you Chrysler for producing such a lemon.
Hi I am a tech. that has worked on cars and have seen many cars with common failures, but not to the extent of this chrysler 2.7 engine. My nephew has a 2001 intreped the low oil psi light keeps comming on at idle. I checked engine oil psi. at idle it drops to 3psi and light comes on. I purchased new sender and checked actuation psi 4psi I think you know as well as I where this is going. the same place as his engine. It is amassing to me that a company like Domeler Chrysler you know the same company that ownes a very well known luxury car manufacturer made in germany. would treat ther customers so poorly. I am sure this will cost them manny customers. I know I will never purchase a chrysler product due to there handeling of this problem. I hope that they find a way to be fair to there customers, but I thank it will take a class action suit to even get some resolve.
I feel sorry for all you people who bought a 2.7. My dad has a '99 Concorde LXi with a 3.2 engine, and aside from the usual wear and tear, it runs and looks great!
Add me to the growing list of 1999 Chrysler Concorde 2.7 Engine owners that has had a breakdown. I have experienced all of the "symptoms" documented in all of the other dissatisfied owners' comments: the engine light, the "jerky" engine, and finally - the car died when the timing chain broke. Seeing the sludge build-up at the dealership was unbelievable. Estimated replacement cost: $7,000. I share the heartbreak with all who have experienced (and will experience) this failure in the Chrysler product. The question now becomes: What can we do?
