Honestly this is a great truck, I haven't had any real problems with it yet. A couple of little things such as the door lock actuator have gone out, and there seems to be a high pitch whistling sound coming from the engine compartment, when you accelerate.
I have nothing too bad to say about the performance, this truck goes when you push the pedal down, and so does all that gas. Truthfully you can expect to get about 13-14 miles a gallon around town if you are lucky! But overall this is an awesome truck!!
I am a owner of a 2000 Dakota Club Cab SLT with the 4.7 liter with all the options, except sliding rear window. Added black tube step bars with a very nice brush guard added to front. Beautiful flame red exterior, charcoal cloth interior. truck is a one owner and is great. Had a 98 Ram SLT before it and loved it also. Great truck. Never had a problem with it.
I love my Dakota. It is a 6 auto and I get 16 to 20 mpg.
The truck handles very well, and is quiet to ride in. My wife loves the ride and all the options we have on it. The kids have plenty of room in the back.
I too have a 2000 Dodge Dakota with a six cylinder engine. The truck runs great, its full of power and a pleasure to look at. I do have one problem though, the gas mileage attained is terrible, approximately 14 to 15 miles per gallon. I tried improving on the truck's gas guzzling attitude by replacing the spark plugs, along with the distributer and rotor cap, but no change has been observed. There are no trouble lights showing in the dash area neither can I observe any obvious engine problems. As I have previously said the truck runs great. I need some outside input as to what is suspected in the performance of the truck. I am keeping the truck irregardless of the gasoline consumed.
I have a year 2000 Dakota with the 4.7 engine. I thought it got great mileage considering the power. Bought the truck new though. My first new car. I got 19 mpg on the freeway, 15 to 16 around town. But I've been out of the country most of the last 4 years and left it with a friend for a year. When I got back there were 75,000 miles on it; left it with 35,000.
Gets worse mileage now with less than 80,000 miles on it, but still not too bad. I had a 1987 Dakota with the carburetor V6 before this one and the v8 has twice the power and about the same gas mileage.
Only problem I've had is the crank position sensor went out at 77,000 miles.
