Leaking steering fluid, but was fixed under warranty.
Reasonably good car and surprisingly, pretty stable.
Engines sounds kind of rough, but weirdly it sounds smooth early in the morning before the engine has time to warm up.
I have owned my Satria 1.6GLi since 1998 and it has been a very reliable car but the rear boot is constantly leaking whenever it rains or when I have it washed. 3 trips to the service dealer later and it still leaks to the point where my spare tyre compartment is now used for a fish tank. And even with power steering, the steering feels quite heavy compared to the Wira's. Maintenance wise, is very low and it can go about 340km on a full tank of fuel. Can anyone get better mileage?
I realised in the morning that the car engine is quite noisy, especially during cold in the morning and on rainy days.
Further more, the mileage is very high and for a full tank the car can go up to a maximum of 300-350km.
Hi,
I got my Proton satria XLI for the last 6 months and its been great driving it.
Its quick and very economical. 8ltr per 100km in the city!
Great little car!
Greetings
Happy driver.
I purchased a 1998 Proton Satria recently, and have never been happier. No problems addressed by other reviews (steering fluid, leaky boot). Easy clutch, smooth and very easy to drive (great for learners). while it is only a 1.5, it has plenty of go - what a fantastic little car.
I bought an second hand satria 1.3gli (2001) 2 years ago. I'm well prepared with all the problems i've heard from my friends. Typical faults my car face is : power window failure, but this can be resolve by helping to pull & press the UP button togather. Squeeking sound in panel, just louder your audio's volume to cancel the interference. Air-con's adjuster broke, just leave it be & on some window if you feel too cold at night. Rattling sound in engine, don't know what happen so leave it be. But the drivability of my car is still better then korean car's which I have drove. cheers.
Gd, another Satria 1.5 user from Malaysia that already been driving the car for more than 7 years. (1996 model).
As a salesperson, my Satria has travelled more than 240,00km within 7 years with zero road accident so far. (touch wood..).
From my experience, the average annual maintenance for my Satria approx at RM 2,500 (or USD 700~800).
At this price range, you simply can't expect too much out of it. And so far the only drawbacks are >> rattling steering at 150 km/hr and relatively short life for rear suspension (change once per year)
I drive a Satria Automatic 1.6 and my mileage is also about 350-380 depending, of course long distance driving (highway, it can stretch to 500 km, but city driving is about 300++) but most common is 320-350km. I can stretch it to 380km, but the fuel tank would be nearly empty by then.
Well, Hi all,
I've had my Proton Satria since new, when I bought it back in 2002. And it has been quite reliable, only had to replace clutch and exhaust a couple of years ago. But lately I've had these minor problems, such as my brake warning light on my dash will not go off, even though the brakes are fine and there's plenty of brake fluid. Also, my petrol guage is lucky to work two or three times a year...
Anyone else had these problems???
I just get satria model 1995 (1.3L)..wow such a beautiful car. even I'm the 6 owner of this car, the car perfomance just like a new. so economic..
I just bought a 2003 2nd hand 1.5 auto.
I'm not really happy with the brakes, funny gear stick, lighters not functioning, and rough window (sound).
But I'm really happy with the pickup and stability.
A beautiful and powerful car!
Have a 98 Satria. Is a little rough, but am doing it up slowly. Drove recently from Taree NSW to Kyogle NSW 490km. Car ran well, good steering and handling, but new door rubbers will quieten noises. Economy out of the 1.6l motor, better sit down. 5.7litres per 100km travelling at speed limit. Ian Brisbane.
