"A piece of garbage, not worth the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Repaired the transmission twice.

Had the 4x4 transfer case repaired once.

Have had ongoing brake problems, still not fixed.

Anti-lock brakes have never worked.

Abnormal oil consumption.

Worn out driver's seat.

Worn out front cup holder.

No power or low performance.

Rear end has excessive rust all over it.

Leaked antifreeze from the thermostat.

Driver'ss quad door window did not stay open.

General comments?

This truck is unreliable, and a piece of garbage. It has only been highway and city driven. It would never have stood up to any off road, farm use, taking any sort of a work load or long trips. I am too scared to try any of the above because it won't handle it.

I will NEVER have another Chrysler product. Chrysler seems to know that they have a huge problem with their trucks, but don't seem to care. I have been lucky with my brakes failing and not had an accident yet, but I had some real close calls.

My Father-in-Law has a 1999 Dodge Quad-cab with the Diesel. He has been having brake problems. The brakes start to apply while he is driving and will not release until he un-tightens the brake lines from the master cylinder and bleeds off the pressure. It does not happen every time he drives it and the dealer has changed the master cylinder and the booster under warranty but of course it has now begun to do it again out of warranty. Any ideas? My e-mail is bruzer@rvi.net

Thanks

Mike.

Hi, I owned a 1998 Dodge Ram Quad Cab and have abnormal comsumption "eights quarts in 3,000 miles". I asked several people that owned the same truck with the same engine, and surprisingly they have the same problem that I have. The Chrysler Service dealer is going around in circles trying to fool me. If they do not fix my truck right, I am going to take them to court.

5-18-02 I own a 1999 dodge quad cab pickup, with the 5.9 engine, bought it in nov.99 did not know about the news letter that chrysler sent out on sept. 99 about excessive oil consumption problem and spark knocks resulting from the same problem to me a clear case of consumer fraud, all I have gotten is the run around also, thier favorite response is your warranty run out at 36000 miles, but yet the truck is not even 3yr. old, and wanting to run consumption test on engine. Personally I think it was a lemon from day one and chrysler new it was also just because of the research I have done proves that. I will never purchase another chrysler product or encourage anyone else to either. They have proven to me that thier vehicles don't hold up or match up to nothing worthy to drive on open highway.

I am on my second 99 ram quad cab with the 5.9l. Got the dealer to buy back the first one because of the spark knock. I took him on his word that they had fixed the problem on the newer ones. My bad. The 1999 I have now uses about four quarts of oil every 2000 miles and spark knocks so bad even with premimum that I cannot pull a trailer. I have owned numerous dodges in the 20 years, but this will be my last.

I own a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, and have had the transmission repaired twice before the first year of ownership. The first time I couldn't leave my driveway to go pick up my daughter from school, all I could do is watch my truck be towed to the dealer that I bought it from. The second time {less than 30 days later) it went out on me, we were 1 hour from our destiny, and were 4 hours away from home. This time it was in the dark, I had 2 small children with me and pulling a trailer.. Once again I watched my Dodge be hauled off to the nearest dealer, in the dark, not knowing how I was going to get in either direction with a trailer, and children. This time I was a little hot over the whole situation. Dodge does not have loaner cars or reimbursement for rentals. I had to rent a UHaul, to pull the trailer and then rent a car to conduct my business that requires me to travel. Each dealer that worked on the transmission blamed the other for the transmission problems, and then deny that they said anything about the other when it comes time to get DaimlerChyrsler involved.

I have had a noise in the rear end since I bought it. I took it to the dealer that I bought it from, to have it looked at and they replace the ball joints on the front of the truck??? I've had other mechanics from the private sector able to tell me what the problem is, but a dealer mechanic can't find the noise.

All of these experiences have made me feel like Dodge does not put there money where their mouth is and back up their product. They don't won't to go the extra mile, to help with car rental reimbursement for their defective workmanship, or to admit that there is a problem. What really eats at me, is this is the most I have ever paid for a vehicle, because it was suppose to be a work horse.

One thing has come out of this, the decision that I will not buy another Dodge product ever.

P.S. My cd player has also gone out and I'm not done paying for the truck yet.

I own a 1997 Dodge SLT extra cab 5.9L 1500 ram. the only thing I have done to it is put gas in it and change the oil (mobil 1 10W30) I don't have high oil consumption, one quart between 6000 miles. oil changes. I have over 70,000 miles on the ram and I LOVE IT!

Looking forward to buying a new ram 2500 with the cummins!

I purchased a 1999 quad cab 4 wheel drive (new) I now have 60000 miles on it and am starting to experience multiple problems. 1st after a 500 mile road trip used over 4 quarts of oil. never until then had I added any oil. 2nd rear end starting to slip when towing, best guess is need to change fluid and add additive for clutch assy in differential. 3rd spark knock like I have never heard before. seems to be worse on above 80 degrees and below 30 degrees. but the worst part about this truck is the handling. cannot simply go anywhere without arm wrestling it all the way. truck has been like this since day 1 dealer told me I would get use to it? its new? etc 4 years and still the same.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab bought brand new. Thumping sound when moving forward from dead stop since new. Dealer said it was drive-shaft and was normal. OK? 40K leaking coolant from thermostat housing. Around 60K developed spark knock and decreased power. Has turning radius of aircraft carrier, real pain to park. Never again.

I own a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab. I thought nothing could be as bad as the Ford F-150 we previously had yet the Ram beats it in problems hands down. With only 30K easy miles, I'm on my third set of front brakes, third steering column intermediate shaft, have continual ABS problems, coolant leaks that no one can find including the dealer. The worst of it all being that the dealer and factory could care less. At least Ford tried to fix all the problems.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 quad cab that I bought used. Within the first the first month I found out it used oil. I do not see smoke, so I cannot say where the oil is going. I also smell antifreeze after a drive. The cup holder is broke, and the compact disk player quit, but the big thing is spark knock! What can I do?

We have a 1999 Dodge Quad cab, 1500 is nothing but trouble! We do not over work our truck. We maintain it like it should be.

MOST trouble we have is getting the dealer to work on it. We are the first and only owners & have an extended Warranty. The dealers make you wait for a month or 2 until they have an appointment open. THEN they don't repair the problems! WHAT a NIGHTMARE! We even had the service mgr. tell us just to sell it and buy a new one!... we have only 83,000 miles on it!

The vehicle is still very pretty, only it is a mechanical nightmare.. if the computer doesn't show a code.. they can't fix it! WE will never buy another DODGE!...
