"A high performance sports car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

To tell you the truth, Nothing really has gone wrong with the car.

On most of the Lasers, Mitsubishi Eclipses, and Eagle Talons that I have seen in and around my town, the molding on the door, right on the window is always rusty, or rotting, or have fallen off. When I bought my Laser both of the door moldings were missing.

When I turn on the air-conditioning, not even on high, or medium, the car idles extremely low, and the car has poorer acceleration, however the air-conditioning system has no problems whatsoever.

General comments?

When I was car-hunting right after my previous piece of garbage died (Eagle Summit DL), this car caught my eye right away. I had a choice between a 1992 electric blue Mitsubishi Eclipse, a 1994 white Ford Probe, and my 1991 white Plymouth Laser. I must tell you, I hate white cars because they get so dirty, but when I saw the Laser, I fell in love with it. I knew I had to have it.

The car was in mint condition when I bought it and to this day I have no problems with it.

This car is "The Fast and the Furious" for real!

This car makes you have fun when you drive, great handling and acceleration.

Even for a decade-old car, it still blows newer model cars away with its speed, handling, and sporty looks.

It took some getting used to driving it and such. The power beneath me!!!

I felt like I was in a space ship when I test drove it. It is extremely sporty, clean, comfortable, and "futuristic like" (compared to my previous purchase).

I'm a recent high-school graduate without a lot of money to "hook" my car up but, the little in expensive things I did, people REALLY notice. I spray painted the stock muffler chrome and added a five dollar extension to it and now, everyone thinks I bought a new exhaust for it (it looks that good!). I also went to Aid Auto and bought a two dollar, thirty six foot roll of blue pin-striping, applied it. It looks awesome if you take the time to do it carefully, don't mess up.

I get compliments all the time on my car, my friends are so jealous.

I bought a new CD stereo deck and I didn't need to replace the stock speakers because they were still working as good as new, the bass was still rich sounding.

I highly recommend this car to anyone who has the need for speed and high styli'n flyi'n!

The Laser is also much more inexpensive to buy, care for and maintain then its twin cars, the Mitsubishi Eclipse, and the Eagle Talon.

I just bought my 1991 Plymouth Laser about three weeks ago, and let me say it was the best decision I ever made. The car has handling and acceleration to spare. For the cost of the car and how nice it performs, this is a really good buy. I hope to put ground effects and mags on it in the future, and get a stereo as well.

The Plmouth Laser is a joke. Nothing but problems. Everything from the headliner falling down to the - put it to you this way $#@^@&$#*$ valve job, 2 timing belts, electric fans stop, new radiator, electrical this, that, everything.

Alarm, powersteering pump, 3 starters, alternator, broken exhaust.

Great for the turbo, very uncomfortable. Wouldn't buy it or either of its sister cars.

The Plymouth Laser is no import!!! What are you talking about!!! An import is a car imported from another country. Hence the name import!!!

I'm a teenager and my future Plymouth Laser is very cool.

It's so sporty. It's engine is an import, but the body is not and it is still a Plymouth. Plymouth is American. It is not an import. Only the engine. A comment made by another Laser lover was right. When you take the turbo silencer off

it sounds so sporty and mean. I did not know you could hit 130. That is pretty cool.

91 2.0 nonturbo here. Great car with no interior defects, really strong engine. Until I hit 142,000 miles. front tranny seal blew, and was leaking tranny oil like crazy. That was not even 2 months ago. since then I've gone through 3 output shaft seals on the passenger side, 4 on the drivers. 2 rear main engine seals, 3 oil pan gaskets, and well over $100 in fluids alone. Now the front tranny seal blew AGAIN. I am a mechanic, and have never seen transmission problems like this car has. I personally have seen trannies have problems on 10 other DSM owners' cars.

Oh and FYI, this car is mitsubishi to the core. Sorry to anyone who wants to believe its domestic. manufactured in Normal, IL along with the eclipse, talon, galant, stealth, and 3000gt from 90-94. Design is completely japanese. That's why, on 90-94 talons, lasers, and eclipses, there are no differences except for the badging. www.dsm.org and go from there.

I got my 1991 Plymouth Laser last year for my 16th birthday. It is a five-speed, turbo and all it is is trouble. every two weeks something else is wrong with it and now I have to buy a brain for it. It is so hard to find the right brain without having to spend a ridiculous amount. Parts for it should be easier to find and buy.

I have a 91 Mitsubishi Eclipse and I think it would smack any stupid Laser. And as far as the guy who said that the Laser was an Eclipse to the core, if that were so then the car would be called an Eclipse not a Laser. I admit the Laser has some Mitsubishi parts in it, but that's because dumb old Plymouth couldn't come up with something of their own and anyway Mitsubishi is cooler than Plymouth and faster.

Don't buy an eclipse talon or laser there nothing but trouble from the first thing that goes worng lasers and talons are mitsubishi to the core along with the chrysler sebring ect if you were a mechanic or have talked to one you would know this if maintained from the start these are good cars, but most people don't realize what a pain it is for routine maintanence if you do have a good running

2.0 remember to FLUSH YOUR ANTIFREEZE if you don't it will corrode and blow a head gasket these cars are known for electrical engine transmission and for those that arn't maintained turbo problems if you have one of these cars and like it good for you just remember to have tune ups regularly and run oem parts no aftermarket bull

i personally own an eclipse 1.8 and am burried 10,000 on a car that is listed in kelly blue book for 700 if you have one of these good luck I personally have switched to supra's and haven't had a problem yet.

I have a 90 laser and I love it. Yeah it has problems, but so does every car out there. It has beaten a V8 before and when I get to about 120 on the highways things go by very quickly like all of the camaros and vettes I pass. My starter went out yesterday, but you people need to realize that it's a car, things go wrong. Don't say the car is a piece of crap because you are too lazy to put any effort into fixing it. That's all I have to say.

When your timing belt breaks on a 1990 turbo plymouth laser, does it always mean the valves bent, or the head is blown?

I'm the one who wrote the comment on the 91 laser with the blue pin stripes. My timing belt went almost a year and a half ago and no my engine or anything else was not damaged. I had the base SOHC engine and the belt snapping doesnt screw anything up. I had a fight with a mechanic over it, he tried to tell me I needed a new engine. I had to demand him to do some sort of compression test and guess what he was wrong. I sold it to my friend and its still running strong with 197,000 miles on it and guess what. I'm buying it back from her in a few months. So ill have a 93 Dodge Stealth (Mitsubishi also) and my 91 Laser home together. These cars are definatley worth your money if you take car of it.
