I had to replace the carburettor.
I replaced the engine two times.
I had problems with the steering column.
I had a problem with oil getting into the radiator.
I had to replace the radiator.
Went through brakes like crazy.
A piece of junk, I will never buy a Mazda again.
This truck was slower than molasses in January.
This truck comes as stock with a Mitsubishi engine, I will never buy a Mitsubishi.
Hey bro, I know the Mazdas go through parts like crazy, and they're slow as a drunk snail, but I find that highway driving isn't what they're made for, throw a little lift in your truck and get some 31" or 33" mud tires and hit the trails with it... my mazda will go places those Toyotas only wish they could go. If ya don't believe me, take it on some trails, put her in 4 low and hit a hill you don't think you'd make... bet you'll be surprised! And if you gotta replace the engine, go with a 5.0L Mustang engine, or a 300zx turbo motor. Since you're spendin the cash anyway, might as well upgrade it right?
I must say that this was perhaps one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. This truck was put to work every single day as it was also my toy which saw a lot of time in the mud, in the woods and crawling over rocks on a local jeep trail. The truck was not perfect as no car or truck is, but overall I would give it an A+ considering it's price and it's ability to go almost anywhere you wanted it to. I beat my truck to death, I tried my best to kill it here is a list of problems I had.
Replaced headlamp
Had wiring problem to fuel pump in the tank, pump was good, just resolder and go.
Replaced one clutch at 115k miles.
Replaced exhaust at 115k miles.
Repaired timing chain tensioner.
Any other wear items like tires and brakes not included as wear was normal as expected.
My only real complaint was the carb, it tended to act up from time to time in extreme cold or heat, but never left me stranded.
My 1988 Mazda B2600 truck is great in every way except fuel millage 12-14 miles per imp. gallon and at times hard to start, I believe it is a carb. problem. I want to keep my truck, but want to replace my carb. Any comment would be appreciated.
Dude It is thee that are sadly mistaken, From 1987-88 all B2600 4WD trucks came with 2.6L mitsubishi engines I own one all original except for a brand new Mikuni Solex electronic carburetor which I can't get 2 idle when warm. Whats up with that? Bogs down on normal takeoff, but accelerates great when stomped. Got rid of the jet valves did a 3angle grind and dumped 2 of the 3 catalytic converters. Also eliminated the balance shafts and replaced timing chain.
THIS IS TRUE, 87-88 B2600'S WERE MITSU'S... I DON'T REALLY CARE FOR THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE EITHER, but IT SEEMS TO RUN FAIR. ANYONE OUT THERE EVER TRY TO TURBO CHARGE ONE? I AM CONSIDERING DOING THIS TO MINE. I HAUL TWO QUADS WITH MINE AND WITH ALL THE CAMPING GEAR ITS FAIRLY GUTLESS. I TOOK ALL OF THE SMOG STUFF OFF OF IT, INSTALLED A RED LINE CARB AND GOT RID OF THE BALANCE SHAFTS. MAYBE ITS THE 33'S THAT MAKE IT GUTLESS, but I NEED THE BIG TIRES TO GET OUT ON THE DUNES. I HAVE A GOOD TURBO OF A Z CAR I WOULD LIKE TO TRY.
Hey, I have had absolutely no problems with my 87 b2600 until now... at 99k my truck stared to make a grinding noise when the engine hit higher rev's. I think that it is a timing chain problem and with a few of you making comments on th timing chain I believe I may be right. any comments would greatly be appreciated. so here is to the ONLY import I will ever own. go Mazda!
I have a 93 Mazda b2600i. I have never has any problems with it until now. It stuttered almost like it was running out of gas. I tested for spark, compression, looked at the electronic control and tested the injectors. Everything checked out. I adjusted the distributor all the way over and it started, but it doesn't have any power. I think the timing chain slipped. Can anyone tell me (without buying the expensive book) whether I can adjust the chain with the tensioner or will I have to change out the entire chain? Any comments would be welcomed. I love this truck and I want to keep it, but It has 163,000 miles on it.
1989 Mazda 2600 fuel injected. I want to throw mudders on my truck, but I don't know what size I can put on without changing the original setup. I'm thinking about throwing in a 4.0Litre B4000 engine V6, but will this pose any problems with engine mounts and space requirements. This truck overall has been very reliable, starts up in -40C (guessing 0Ferenheit) weather, 4cyl is gutless true, but a 4L V6 has 209 HP original, imagine a bored out, K&N, exhaust, chip setup will put it over 300HP for sure. Then maybe I will need a new transmission and axles. Another question is when lifting a truck like a Mazda, should I go with a Dana 40 front axle or leave it the way it is? I would love to hear your input on this as I would love to just jack it up, throw mudders on it and just go bogging. Thanks.
What kind of mileage have you guys been gettin on your trucks?? Thanks.
O man who ever says mazda b2600 is not a good vehicle are very wrong. I had a 1993 mazda 2600 I beat the heck out of it not one this went wrong until 200,000 miles, head gasket went which is suprizing it didn't earlier because of the tires I went though with all the brake stands. and I actually think it was pretty fast even with 150,000 miles it kept up with a 2004 4.7 dodge durango. I loved that thing and when I get a chance I'm getting another.
The 87-88 Mazda 2600's were junk. I had one, and I was very unimpressed. 89 and newer are much better than their predessors. If anyone is looking to buy one, it is worth the time to get an 89 or newer!
I have a 92 B2600i with 125K. Recently I had a problem that happened one day without warning. It acted as if it were running really low on gas, had bad gas, or had a clogged fuel filter or bad pump and stalled out itself after running just fine for only 10 minutes. Then it got really rough and stalled. The next day, it would run fine again for 10 minutes, and then stall. After a bunch of research and troubleshooting, and a CPU refurb, it was the Ignition Pick-up off of the distributor. Crazy. Other than that, the truck is good, gets about 15-17mpg.
I AM ON MY 2ND 93' B2600i 4x4. I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER FIND ANOTHER EXTENDED CAB MODEL AFTER I TRIED TO CLIMB A TREE WITH MY FIRST ONE, TOTALED IT. THE TRUCK IS GREAT, JUST WISH I COULD GET BETTER MILEAGE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS, BUT I GET OVER IT WHEN I GO OFF-ROAD. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE GEARING IN THE TRANNY, T-CASE, AND AXLES?
I currently own a 89 2600 and a good friend of mine owned a 92 model, both of which have been beaten badly. I will agree that the mileage is poor, but if you want something that really takes a fantastic beating out in the field, you would be hard pressed to find anything more durable... in my opinion. This opinion was made after several outings with other types of trucks and have witnessed the damage of others that never came close to the abuse that was given to our little Mazdas.
I never thought much of these Mazda B2000/2600 pickups, but the mining company where I worked in Bolivia used them, and I gained new respect for them.
The roads were atrocious, so these little pickups took a constant beating and kept on going, with minimal maintenance (the closest thing to a garage there is driving up on an embankment so somebody can crawl underneath it). They were our only contact with the outside world. They proved to be reliable and simple.
The only possible downside was that they were a little light to get much traction, and washboards would break the rear loose from the road. They were also really susceptible to the ubiquitous water-logged gasoline, so pulling the fuel filters and blowing out the water was a must or they would stall.
Power wasn't that great, but it was really good considering they were carbureted and running routinely at 10,000-15,000 feet above sea level.
