Accelerator sticks.
Steering shaft replaced.
Driver lumbar support in-operable.
Truck pulls to the right.
All doors rusted.
Hood rusted in the engine compartment.
Four wheel drive in-operable.
Very noisy interior.
Engine knocks when started.
The truck has had a lot of problems, the dealership has tried to repair however, some like the rust keeps returning. They have no idea why.
I contacted Chevrolet customer service to see what they would do and found they will do nothing. I suggested extending the warranty which they refused. My brother-in-law had problems with an Oldsmobile and extending the warranty was their suggestion.
Although I'm not satisfied with the amount of time I've spent in the shop, nearly 3 weeks since delivery. I'm very disappointed with Chevrolet customer service.
The door rust was repaired and is now returning 2 months later.
The truck is not a base model. I ordered every possible option on it.
It seems Chevrolet quality has gone down the tubes in the last few years. I, too, was appalled at their customer service, or should I say lack of customer service. I can understand a defect in a vehicle from a company that produces so many every day, but the customer service is totally unacceptable. I am much, much more offended by that than the actual problem. They absolutely refuse to give you the time of day unless you are within your warranty, and then I can imagine they find every reason to not pay for problems. It's sickening how they treat customers.
I am also a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4x4 3 door extra-cab owner. I have had a few problems with the vehicle also, but overall, I'd buy another one. I am very satisfied with the truck.
I have had a chronic problem with the "check engine oil level" message light intermittently illuminating despite the engine oil level being correct. This has occurred virtually at day one of vehicle delivery and has persisted to this day at the 35000 miles. It has been brought into the dealer at least 4 times for this reason and still no repair or parts exchange has been made. (I consider this a dealer issue... although GM has stated no fix is available...) The dealer has suggested that I bring it in when the problem is active, but when it is active, I contact the dealer and tell me to make an appointment for like the following week... needless to say the problem goes away by then...
At 4400 miles the rear differential self destructed. The truck has never been off road and it is mostly highway milage...GM replaced the rear end under warranty stating that there was a service advisary reporting that the mfg of the rear end, shimmed it too tightly...
Next, there was a clunking in the drive train which sounded like a U-Joint failure.. it turned out to be another service advisory reporting that the transfer case lube should be replaced with another product (which they specified) because the original Lube was too sticky when hot. This too, was fixed under warranty.
All in all, however... I'd do it all over again... perhaps, though, not from the same dealer...
We to are owners of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado and are very un-satisfied. We took our truck back to the dealer for an engine knock and were told that this is normal, something called a cold engine knock. This was not to effect the life of the engine. We now have fifty three thousand miles on this truck and the engine knock has gotten louder and longer. It is also using oil between changes. We have other problems, but this is the one that really gets us. This was a thirty thousand dollar truck and it is going down hill quick. We have spoke with the so called customer service about ten times or more. They are rude and they even hung up on us the last time we called. I would understand this if someone was to be yelling, cursing or out of control, but this was not the case. We even wrote a letter to chevorlet and got no response. E- Mails are not returned either. This so called cold engine knock is in models: 1999-2002 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Pickup and utility Models 2002 Cadillac Escalade (2WD) with 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L Engine (VINs V, T,U- RPOs Lr4, LM7, LQ4) This was a service bulletin from our dealer. At the dealership where we purchased our Silverado, there are 30 other complaints about the engine at this time. This is a very brief run down of our experience. We will NEVER purchase another Chevrolet Silverado. One more thing, the same engine is still being put in this truck to this day.
I have a 2001 Silverado. I took the truck to the dealer yesterday and they said this "cold engine knock" is "normal". I told them that if it is normal, why didn't it happen when I bought it? GM wants to extend the warranty to 100,000 miles. This is pretty good, but I didn't spend $30,000 to hear this engine knock. The truck only has 33,400 miles and is still under warranty. The dealer acknowledges the bulletin that was put out in May of 2002 stating a correction was in the works. But GM has decided that it is cheaper to replace a few engines if they fail rather that to put new piston rings in all the Silverado's on the road. I will never, but another GM product.
Oct 16 2003.
I have a 2001 Silverado with about 33,500 miles on it the "cold knock "is a joke.
I just I'm trying to find some way to get it fixed or a GM recall, any answers?
Hellow, I have a 2000 Gmc Sierra extended cab pickup and in 2003 the bottom of the doors of the extended cab of the truck were starting to rust out. I have never seen a vehicle have rust this soon after purchase. I did have the rust fixed, but will it come back again? I thought that the general had there act together, but I guess I was wrong!!!
We will never buy a Chevrolet truck or car again. It's a very expensive mistake!
We have the "knock". Of course, GM won't do much about it. It's normal they say.
Our tailgate latches have failed and ruined, our cables have been busted and we've been driving down the road on 5 different occasions and the tail gate has fallen completely off and on to the road. Now, the tailgate is nice and scratched up and the plastic cover on top is all busted. I've taken it to the dealer every time it's happened and the dealer continues to claim it's because of misuse. Bull! They say they don't have problems with there latches or they're cables. Huh! Guess again.
We've had to have the seals on the windows replaced twice.
We've had to get the tarp replaced twice because the seams rip apart.
The truck is nice and pretty but it's a 30,000 mistake...
The customer service I've dealt with about all of these issues is a joke! And a complete waste of time.
I was always a die hard Chevrolet fan, but in the future Ford is looking better and better.
Hate my Chevrolet!
I also own a 2001 Silverado with engine noise. I now have 51,000 miles on the truck and been back to the dealer 4 times since it was new and have been told to call GM, I called and got a 100,000 mile warranty, but that didn't fix the problem -- Sorry General Motors, but my new truck will not come from your company.
I have a 2001 Chevy 2500 4 wheel drive. I to have experienced the cold engine knock and also some noise in the steering shaft which is very irritating. I personally have quited the cold engine knock by using a good oil treatment with every oil change. My truck has been dependable so far with approx.110000 miles. Anyone else had any noise with or in the steering?
I purchased a new Chevrolet Silverado (2001}. I have been a loyal chevrolet customer in the past, however, I will never buy another Chevy product again.
My truck had the following "problems".
(1) Initally, the cold knock;, but often lasted for 30 minutes. The dealer said not to worry. I don't know if the excess oil consumption is related to this, but oil consumption has increased from 0 to more than 1 quart (less than 45,000 miles).
(2) Initally, the brakes didn't feel as responsive as I thought they should be. The dealer checked them out and reported back that they were normal. At 32.000 miles they failed in heavy traffic. When I took it in to the dealer, they did a complete brake job all round (rotors, calipers, and pads). There was no explaination for the uneven wear, even when I asked repeatedly. The problem persists to the present, even tho at 38,000 miles the dealer charged $300 plus to install an ABS sensor to correct the problem.
(3) At the same time the brakes failed, the dealer installed a new water pump to replace a failing one (35,000 miles).
(4) About this time, the dealer replaced the tail gate cables (35,000 miles). Further, the tail gate latch started to open unpredictably--Also a current problem.
(5) At 35,000 miles the dealer replaced the stearing sector (when making tight turns, it felt as if the front end was undualating. This "sensation" persists currently.
(6) Also, at 35,000 miles, the dealer tried to correct the slap in the driveline. It felt better for several weeks, then, it came back. This also is a problem currently. It is severe enought that, when it happens while cornering on slick roads, it has caused the rear tires to break traction.
Other defects;, which I consider minor, are persistent air leaks, excessive CD player noise, and, the electric windows do not operate smoothly (they squeek and jerk, and the motors seem to labor--also, any moisture at all, in freezing weather, will cause them to freeze up).
Lastly, the tubular steps started to corrode at 10,000 miles.
Excluding the tail gate support cables, the dealer will
not or cannot fix any of the defects listed above.
I have a 1999 chevrolet truck. it has had a engine knock sense the day I bought it. though this has been a great truck with only a few problems. my truck has 167,000 miles on it and uses no oil. the only problem I had is at 120,000 miles the fuel pump check valve would let the fuel drain back to the tank. with a lot of help from my dealer I replaced the fuel pump my self. I used the fuel pump from dealer costing $381.00. other than that only normal maintenance. I thought this is pretty good considering it being backed into at only 6 days old, and having hit 2 deers with it doing a lot of damage...
I have recently purchased a 2000 2500 HD. So far at 71,000 miles no problems. Other than the cold engine knock that seems to be loud enough to worry about. The main thing I must complain about is MILEAGE. I'm getting about 12mpg. The motor is a 6.0 Liter. That's about 380 cubic inches. I have a 1968 1/2 ton that has a beefed up 400cid small block that has a Holley double pumper carburetor that gets better mileage than this truck. Why is this? It's fuel injected and lighter and newer. What a guzzler.
I have a 2001 Chevy 2500 hevey duty 4x4. The 4 wheel drive disengages only after a few miles, and well not reengage. Any ideas or comments.
I have a 2000 Silverado 2wd pick up. The engine knock has always been present, but I now have 170,000 miles on my truck (almost all highway miles). The accelerator sticks, meaning it acts like the cable gets hung up when I try to back out of my driveway in the morning or when I'm trying to leave a parking lot. I have to slam on the accelerator to get it going again which results in me seeming like I'm trying to lay rubber or something. The fuel pump is VERY noisy and always has been... a high pitched ringing noise. Now it is very sluggish when I'm trying to accelerate. I had that same problem about 30k miles ago, but it went away - now it's back. It's so sluggish now that I can't even pass people on the highway. I'm thinking about yanking this engine out and installing a 350 small block.
I have a Chevy 2500HD extended cab. Engine knocks, ABS engages upon stopping most of the time, Garage said I needed a new pump, already replaced one sensor, Front end undulates when making sharp turns, accelerator sticks, electric windows freeze shut in winter and normal operation is like cold molasses, and it uses oil between changes 1 to 1 1/2 qt. Just returned from trip, that I pulled a 26' travel trailer, truck did OK, other than under powered and gas consumption. I think next time I'll try Ford. I have yet to try dealerships, but am going to call.
