"A defective piece of garbage"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rotors warped at less than 25,000 miles of easy, highway miles.

Transmission and torque converter had to be replaced after 54,000 easy, highway miles.

General comments?

I have owned a 1986 base Camaro which I drove over 130,000 miles in and never had to spend a dime on repairs. I owned a 1996 base Camaro which I traded in at 25,000 miles and had absolutely no problems with for my current 1998 Z28.

I am severely disappointed with the fact that I had to spend $2,500 to replace the transmission and torque converter in a vehicle with only 54,000 easy, highway miles.

I am absolutely disgusted with General Motors for failing to allow me to voice my complaint and request for partial reimbursement of the cost of repair.

I would not even consider buying a General Motors product ever again.

I also own a 1998 camaro. My rotors also warped after a short time. They were turned for free. This is not a particularly unusual problem on any car with antilock brakes. I bet not all of those miles were "easy" highway miles. Why on earth did you not buy the extended warranty? To say that you would not buy ANY GM product after this is just ridiculous.

I also had to have the pinion bearing and seals as well as the side bearings replaced. I still love the car.

You say your car is a defective peice of garbage? The fourth gen F-bodys are known for having rotor problems, but not automatic trans problems. The 4L60E is generally considered to be a very strong transmission. I happen to know from having owned a 1995 Z-28. My stock trans took 516 rear-wheel horse with nary a complaint. I happen to think your easy highway miles might be somewhat of an exaggeration. A trans that makes 55,000 miles probably does not suffer from factory defect, but rather from driver defect.

I have a 97 Astro and a 98 Sierra 1/2 ton pickup, both with the 4L60E, and both started having problems. The Astro at 38,000, and the Sierra at 60,000. After being on the highway for a while, when I come off and stop, the thing shifts very hard from 1 to 2, because it is commanding maximum line pressure because it sensed a TCC component slip. I did not have an extended warranty on the van, but do on the truck. I paid 1500 dollars for a delco tranny for the van, which I installed myself, and the truck is GM's problem. I do want to say that with GM's attitude about these issues, I will not buy any GM products anymore either. They know there is a problem with these tranny's, but no one can diagnose it and fix it. Their solution is to replace it, which is fine if you have a warranty or a couple grand sitting around, but at 38,000 miles, it's hard to fork out the cash. I have owned GM vehicles for 19 years, still have my 69 Chevelle, and will keep that, but "Todays Chevrolet" is junk, and their attitude about their products is ridiculous. I hate to say it, but I most definately will not buy GM's anymore.

I own a 1998 Camaro and I have had the transmission replaced 3 times also the pinion seals and bearings and the

electrical system. The car is CRAP!!!

It has been in the shop a lot. I have invested in a car that is no good so those of you who are taking up for GM don't know till you have been there. It is very frustrating and they won't do anything for you and by the way I have babied my car so I know it hasn't had hard miles. it is simply cheaply built. A camaro is a sports car and should be able to handle a little rough driving if someone chooses to do so which I have not, but the other guy here with trans problems I feel for you.

Unfortunately, I am an owner of a 1998 Camaro. Yes, they may be nice looking vehicles- which I regret considering before quality- but they are a piece of junk! And from what I have read and heard, I am not of few, but of many whom have had to deal with the agony of repairing their "new" car. It has been in the shop over 7 times in a 3-year period and is currently being repaired again! Fortunately, the initial repairs were free of charge, after 3 months of quarreling with the dealer and GM. Unfortunately, now I must pay out-of-pocket. All I can advise is purchase extended warranty, however that does not guarantee you won't have to pay from your own pocket. They will eventually find some way to get more of your money.

I am the PROUD, PROUD owner of a 99' Z-28, which in my mind started off as one of the nicest cars I had ever owned. Now, despite the factory torque and power, this car is totally falling short of my expectations of GM. The pinion bearings and quite possibly the axle bearings are shot.

I read countless articles on how tough these cars are under hard driving situations, but I'm not seeing any truth to these claims. Countless numbers of people are complaining of rear end problems.

So, GM, if you want to build a good, quality sports car, build one! Don't mess around with us guys who crave stupid fast. If the rear end in my car fails after an eighth of a mile with some piece of crap mustang, I may have well bought the GT. God forbid I have to buy one of those. Get your acts together. Don't turn me into a Ford fan...

I am a proud owner of a 2002 camaro and I have not been able to drive the car that much do to being deployed quite a bit. I have been a big gm fan since I was little. My parents are on there fifth corvette and we have no problems with those cars. I am on my second camaro. The only problems I've had with that car was the transmission seal busted and a fan motor ceased to work. so there for a head gasket busted causing water to go into the oil.

But I have not yet had a problem with my car. If anyone could tell me what problems I should look out for that would be appreciatly thankful.

I still you have it somewhat pretty good. Why?, because you've got exact kind of car that I've wanted for literally 5 full years now which I still haven't obtained, and that's a nice 8-cylinder sports car with over 300 horsepower.

However, that is indeed a surprise that you had all those problems yet with so little miles... I guess you can't always go by how low the miles are on a car when you determine its reliability, I guess it's more just the individual car itself. Some are reliable and some are just lemons I guess..

Chevy can do it right...

Look at the corvette, but I guess that's why there is a $30,000 (+ or -) price difference.

God forbid you should be in a ford? Its those kind of comments that make you sound stupid.
