1989 Dodge Shadow Shelby CSX from North America - Comments

"Smokes in fourth, chirps in fifth, hauls in sixth!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Oxygen sensor went out at 99,000 miles.

That's it!

General comments?

I put in another Turbo VNT to make it a Twin Turbo VNT.

It used to do the quarter mile in 12.03 seconds.

It now does the quarter mile in 9.98 seconds.

The old 0-60 time was 5.98 seconds.

The new 0-60 time is 5.01 seconds.

I put a new, 6-speed manual transmission in it at 102,000 miles.

I can smoke the tires in fourth gear.

Had to get wider tires and rims to increase the traction to get it to go anywhere without spinning the tires.

An awesome car that has cost me no more than $10,000 total from start to finish.

I would love to see someone try to get a 10 second car for that!

Here are some facts:

A car running the quarter mile in 12.03 seconds would have a 0-60mph time of about 4 seconds flat. 5.98 second 0-60 time reflects a 14.6 or so ET. You must have a heck of a lot of wheel spin.

Further, a 9.98 sec ET would require a 0-60 time of around 2 seconds. Your claimed 0-60 time of 5.01 seconds would put you around 13.5's in the quarter mile.

Nobody ever made a 6-speed tranny for the 2.2's. Reverse doesn't count as a gear, you know. If you had one custom made, it would have cost you about $10,000 I'm sure, so there goes your $10,000 budget.

Even if all of your claims about speeds and trannys were true, the little VNT turbo's wouldn't be able to put out enough air (CFM) to produce the required 660 or so HP required to put your car into the 9 second range (assuming a curb weight of around 2900 lbs). Nor do I believe you have two VNT turbos on your car, not that it's impossible, but your other "facts" don't ring true, so why should anyone believe this? I'd be real interested in seeing any shred of evidence you have to back your story. I could believe it if it was a glass fiber bodied rail car with a turbo'ed V8 in it, but not using the stock engine and drive-train. Do you even know what would happen to your 5-speed tranny at those power levels? I'd like to know what clutch you're using to clamp all that power too.

How about telling the real story, eh?

My guess is it goes something like this:

Quarter mile time: 15.8 sec

0-60 mph: 8 seconds

Tranny: 5-spd

Modifications: 5" chrome exhaust tip.

Some people actually like these cars (myself included), and we don't need to see people like you tell lies about them.

I agree. These are kick-ass cars. Don't ruin these cars with your lies.

Damn, its been a while since there was a post here...lol

The twin turbo on a 2.2, is possible...I've seen it, but the car is a 2 door shadow running 20psi of boost and getting 12sec quarters.

That 9sec with VNT's, mmm maybe in a stripped out omni with slicks. So where did you find that 6 speed trani? id like to get my hands on one. Since my charger is redlining at 150mph, another gear would be nice...

Yes I want to see the facts too, I just don't believe you have that Twin Turbo VNT. and 6 speed tranny HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA that is way to expensive let me see some facts and pictures of this so called VNT TT.

I have a turbo shadow myself that I intend on tuning. I have heard of a Shelby Daytona pushing 500 hp running mid 10s and also of an omni running mid 9s (unknown horsepower) but the omni and Daytona are more aerodynamic than a shadow. it's just not possible to run under 10 seconds in a shadow unless you really know what you're doing. the six speed transmission is possible, but it requires a hidden gear, and it is a custom built piece costing about $10,000 so stop with the lies until you can tell specific times and speeds and actually know what your talking about in the process.

I agree with everyone above. Find dumber people to lie to. As for no problems at over 100,000 on a VNT setup, that's unlikely, but possible. Dual VNT's, I must say how did you do it? And as for 9's, where did you find a computer to give you car that much fuel? And if you actually own a Shelby CSX, why tear it up and modify it? Why not mod a lighter car like the omni, that you can find in someone's backyard for next to nothing? And since when does a stock VNT run 12's? Last I heard they could run 15's, 14's maybe however not likely. Well, as soon as you can come up with some lies to answer me, let me know.

If anyone is interested, I have my 1989 Shadow Shelby for sale (the usual red and gold version) - asking $1500 for it. It's in pretty bad shape compared to others I've seen online. The head is cracked, the inerior needs help, the ground FX are gone on front and back, and cracks on the side FX. The turbo is in fair condition. The body is in good condition except for a couple of car dings. Has over 100K miles.
