"Very luxurious, powerful and neat in a medium sized package"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing, this car has been nothing but great!

General comments?

This car has nearly every option you could think of. Central locking, ABS brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, rear wiper/washer/de-mister (hatchback), power steering and more.

This car is also known as the Mazda 626 hatchback, it was just sold as a Ford over here. It has quite a lot of power, and handles really well, very comfortable, great for long trips, comfortable cabin. I think this car could last for a long time and I'm intending on keeping it for as long as possible, very luxurious.

We have a 90 TX5 and it's crap.

I don't know how but we blew the gasket at 164k's.

It's noisy in the cabin.

The only good thing about the cars is the handling.

If this car had the Toyota Camry's drivetrain I'd keep the car.

I'm not sure why, I have a TX5 Ghia also and it's great, smooth, quiet and handles well.

The best ever.

Not even the new hatchback 2.5l Mondeo is a match to the interior or exterior looks of the TX5.

I enjoy it every time I get into the car, and I don't think I will ever sell it.

Excellent car!

Very quiet and smooth. A lot of power in the V6 for what it is (a family hatch). Interior is very nice and power everything..

I love this car.

Mine's a 1993 TX5, good car, but has developed a problem no one seems to be able to fix. It cuts out completely at higher speeds, above 90 KPH, and won't start for about 5 minutes. Any ideas?

I have a 89 TX5 Telstar.

I have had a couple of things go wrong lately, but the fact that is has 270 000 kms on the clock I can't complain... very pwoerful...I've had it off the clock... very comfortable and I love the looks!

It's a great car.. and I'm not getting rid of mine.

I am a fan of the '88 - '92 Telstar. Has anyone matched the Turbo engine to a 4x4 drive train? Now that would be a great match... In New Zealand we didn't get the Turbo (2.2 litre I believe), but have heaps of Japanese imported 4x4 models.

Mind you, at 109kw from the non turbo 2.0 DOHC, the old Telstar still out does some new 2 litres!

Ford Telstar 93 TX5 Ghia.

Mine is a 2.0 liter, and is pretty powerful, Although the 85 kw engine doesn't give as much power as you would won't it to.

It's a great car and has everything cruise, p.windows, central locking and much much more. I've never had any problems with it and I'm going to keep it for a while.

I have a Ford Telstar TX5 XRI, 2.5lt V6 which I have owned for three years. At purchase, it had done 109K and has now done 209K.

Last week, it also started to cut out at motorway speeds, infact, it stopped on the motorway.

We have reconditioned the distributor, there was a faulty capacitor. Now it runs well, but won't start well when cold.

Any ideas.

The only other trouble I have had is the transmission died at 130K (I'd bought mechanical insurance so no problem) and the rocker cover leaked oil into one of the spark plugs resulting in a five cylinder car for a while.

Otherwise an excellent vehicle.

I recently brought a Ford Tx5 turbo 88 model. I dropped 2 Garret GT25 ball bearing turbos in it, blitz BOV, HKS pod filter, new ECU, racing gearbox and clutch, High performance injectors and pistons and had the engine blue printed. Now I blow Nissan GTR's, Supras and most other Jap cars silly.

Hey like the last guy, I've got a telstar TX5 Ghia 88' and ever since I since I bought it its been nothing, but trouble. At 166K the Gaskets blown, starter motor needs replacing, and a few other things so its now gonna cost me almost as much as I paid for it to fix!!!

My advice by a commodore.

I have a ford 1991 tx5 ghia. with 255000 km jan 2004.

Runs perfectly and has never need to go to a mechanic

while I have owned it.

I get approx 800 km on the open highway with 52

litre normal unleaded. Better than most cars I know of.

Always use Castrol Magnetic oil and change oil filter every 10000 km on the dot.

I had to change the struts in the whole car after I brought it with 195000 km. Monrow sence-a-track $150 each.

Car had a hard life while I was on my p plates and on many freeways in melbourne it achieved almost 200 km/h.

Top speed is 195 km/h on flat road although I have been faster down hill. I have done this to the engine about 10 times and all is well.

I purchased the car because it was voted No 1 (for its class) in a magazine I read a long time ago.

I am very pleased with my purchase although there is not much power in the engine. I have only had it once in the red while in first gear. I never recomended to do this as the engine sounded like it was going to blow.

I agree that the car has very good handling for its type. Friend was very suprised as well comparing it to his VT SS V8. lol.

Good luck with your purchase

I brought a 1988 tx5 turbo and it was great until I clocled up ten thou km on it... then nothing, but trouble for over two years... head gasket, ignition module, cooling system, electrical problems, starting issues, blowing the intercooler hose off (on a bog stock standard) you name it broke pretty much... but... on a good day they are pretty much the best four door sleeper car available... beaten clubsport r8, vl turbo, skyline, xr8 a fair few youd never expect. an 8 grand car that eventually cost me over 12 grand in reapairs, and sold for 3300, but I would definately buy another, maybe just a 90 or 91...oh well.. get one!!!
