1995 Suzuki Swift GTi from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Tough little sports car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car has been absolutely faultless.

General comments?

It has the best bucket seats for any Australian made car.

The rest of the interior is fairly crap with its plasticated bits and pieces.

Aren't you going backwards if your previous car was a Ford Laser.

No Way! In Australia, a Ford Laser is a piece of junk... The Lasers in Europe are much nicer, and I think that is where the confusion lies. A Swift GTi in any country will urinate over a Australian Ford Laser any day.

Not unless you consider a 84 model Ford Laser which was bought for $500 to be better than a GTi!

The GTi is one of the fastest bang per cube motors around, would like to know where your affection for the Laser comes from...

The Suzuki Swift GTi has been a little weapon for a very long time now. The Ford Laser is no comparison to the GTi in performance unless you are talking about a Turbo TX3 version. Believe me, I have seen many modified GTi's in my time, and they have the ability to mutilate a great number of bigger cars. All this coming from a 1.3L!

Yes a GTI is quicker than an Aussie Laser, but it would sure want to be. I don't understand all the fuss about this car when in standard form they don't handle as well as a Civic or other well sorted hatch.

And yes they rev well for a 1.3 but getting trashed by a Holden Camira!? at the lights today was the last straw - I'm selling my not so Swift little car.

The most overrated car I was stupid enough to buy.

I seriously doubt that you were beaten by a Holden Camira. I have owned a 2.0 litre EFI Camira and this car is a piece of crap, believe me. GTI Swift in good condition would beat any Camira any time. I suggest you take some time and learn how to work those gears and get the most out of your engine before you sell it and regret it.

Excuse me, but the JE 2.0 camira has recorded 9.2sec 0-100km times and 16secs for the 1/4 mile. These are faster times than lastest model 1.8L lancers and pulsars, I don't know what model camira that you owned, but if it was a JE it mustve been at the end of its life when you got it.

You are missing the point. I am not comparing a Camira to a Pulsars or Lancers; those cars are nuggets even when they are brand-new. Any enthusiast to buy a standard model Lancer or a Pulsar is an idiot. They are the most souless transport and have no character whatsoever. I get a good laugh everytime a see a poor wa#@er driving a Lancer with a bodykit and an oversized spoiler. I am simply comparing my ex car, a JE Camira 2.0 to a Swift GTI and in acceleration GTI beats it both in quted figures and in practice. And to be honest with you I'd rather drive a JE Camira than a brand new Lancer, Accent or any other recycled piece of crap. However reliability and the sentimental value is where a Swift scores points over a Camira.

I must agree greatly with the above comment as being a owner of KB Laser, R31 Skyline and MK3 Swift I can tell the swift opens a large can of whoop a**s!!!
