1990 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe from North America - Comments

"Warning; If you drive it, you will buy it"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Not much - high miles, but the drivetrain was fully rebuilt with performance in mind. Take care of them and they last for ever.

General comments?

This was a one owner car from Kansas City and it looks and performs super. With the 340 HP and 5 speed I had to go with 18 inch wheels just to hook up.

Replaced the JBL system with a ground pounder system.

I almost like it better than my Saleen Mustang. I just love my SC, can ya tell?

As a Super Coupe owner I can stand by 210hp --BUT!-- We have great support team. Super Coupe Club Of America www.SCCOA.com, http://www.magnumpowers.com Supercharges and inter-coolers, http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/throttle_bodies.html, http://www.mn12performance.com, http://www.scperformance.com, http://www.supercoupeperformance.com, Without touching the engine you can hit 350+hp after that goto www.coymiller.com and have the stage III engine rebuild for 480hp+. My SC has been checked from Ohio-DOT at 465Hp @ 2600rpm 580lb torque@4200rpm. Coy Millers SC runs 10's 1/4mile (4500lb stock t-bird). FORD stated in 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95 our Thunder SC can out run any Mustang we produce, but the Cobra may run even with it. My SC can out run Vipers and I get 27MPG from my V6 supercharged on 92/94 gas. Check the car out it's a great buy for the money...

I'm 16 years old, just bought my first car, a 1990 SC. 3.8 supercharged, anyways 210 hp buddy and 315 lb/feet of torque. Oh I just love it when that supercharger kicks in....

You have to remember that 25hp and the same or a little more torque is lost between the crank and the rear wheels.

OK...first of all. Your SC does not have 340hp. 215hp is more like it. Mines modded out, and I'm probably only at 260 hp at the most. Anyway... your SC also can't beat Vipers. I don't think so.

For all who disagree with the hp amount take this into consideration. The Ford Thunder-bird Model MN-12 Production

Years (1989-1997,was designed to show that Ford still had the goods. The design, suspension, and drive-train, were five years of hard work and research. The Super Coupe's

232 cubic inch engine plus a min. of 8 psi. of boost easily

put out 230hp. The SC would easily smoke a mustang. And with

aftermarket exhaust, and other bolt ons the SC would push

over 300hp. to the REAR wheels.

I am not quite sure you're gettin over 320 with the bird. I did the homework on the issue and with the original 3.8 V6 there is really no possibility of that big of a horsepower gain. The only way to get that kind of power is with a stroker kit, but the 3.8 will blow apart with the high compression! Even the bolt ons and overdriver pulley cannot reach this. But if you're right, email me and tell me the story. geiger2b@uregina.ca.
