"A reliable car for the price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ignition switch failed at roughly 90,000 miles.

Windshield seal leaks slightly.

General comments?

This two door hatchback model with spoiler has been mistaken for a newer Ford Mustang before.

I am pleased with her sleek, contoured look and tight turning radius.

I recently took the car on an extended road trip that spanned just over 2,200 miles round trip and I have to say she handled the trip well. I checked the oil and coolant levels after the trip to find only a little bit of coolant and no oil needed.

The car has no problem reaching or passing the 100 miles per hour mark, but the speedometer needle does wobble a bit in speeds over 70-75.

The interior is decently designed to seat 2 people comfortably with 2 more in the backseat with limited space, but since it is usually just me in the car it works well.

I still get 30-32 miles per gallon, which is wonderful considering the original factory sticker (which I found in the glove compartment) stated 28 highway.

All together I have to say I'm very happy with my little red car and will probably have it until it reaches half a million miles or more. If Ford can fix the windshield leak and fading bumper problems I think they will have a Class A compact car here!

I have the same ignition problem at 99.000 km.

Although was not the ignition switch but the relay. (I also changed the starter motor). There is another problem and is the check engine light on which could be nothing or related to sensor problems.

Such as: the mass flow sensor located in the air filter and the hego sensor near the catalytic, in front of the engine (1.9 models).

I traveled across USA and Canada several times with the car full of moving things, I never had a problem.

I am talking of a Ford Escort LX 1991.

I like the car, but it has no power and many parts deteriorate rapidly such as the battery clamps break easily, so you have to replace using original ones or tightening using screws.

I have actually had very similar issues with my 1991 Escort LX 1.9 and my 1995 Mercury Tracer Trio. A big issue with both cars I owned is the automatic seatbelts are nothing but trouble. They get stuck and will not pass safety inspection...

I have legally disabled the belt system by following the owner's manual. It tells you how to cut off power and you can still use them legally. I wrote the page in this site"I'm in love with this car".
