1976 Holden Gemini TX- TD Front from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"It's a Gemini. A Gem"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Heads/head gaskets. Diff/axles.

Bad squeaky front end (new bushes) etc.

Steering rack, all needed to be replaced...

I have gone through several motors, due to the fact that I blow them up. But you can give them a hiding, they will last for a long time.

A lot of electrical faults. Mostly ignition problems.

General comments?

The car is a weapon, it's taken me years to build it to its current condition. The final result is amazing.

I have owned a lot of Geminis, and I intend to own more...

The hardest part was the fuel injection, I got sick of having to fiddle with the carby set-ups that I had. If you want to own a modern style Gemini, injection is the way to go. I picked my whole setup up for $400, bargain... that included a (old) microtech computer and loom and sensors, manifold/plenum/throttle body.

My next mission, is to get electronic ignition, apparently you can get it from later model Jackeroo's and Rodeos. But I am yet to find it for a reasonable price. The best so far was $125 for the distributor alone, private sale. not bloody likely.

Anyway, the car is fast and fairly reliable, especially in stock form, it handles amazingly, and is an excellent all-round car, I recommend them to anyone.

Hey.

I'm in the process of buying a TX or TD at the moment as well. So, could I have a picture of your Gem to get some ideas for looks?

My email is crwbain@hotmail.com.

If you can help, that'd be good. Or if you know of any decent Gemini web sites, because I've had trouble finding many good ones.

Thanks mate.

Hi, just wondering if you could tell me what your injection system came off, did you have much trouble fitting, any pitfalls to look out for...thanks.

Hey.

I'm eighteen, I was given a Holden Gemini and have done a few minor changes to it to get it running and roadworthy.

I painted it, and it looks really good. However, there are a few problems.

When I try to start my car, I always dread it when you turn the key and it merely makes a clicking sound. Sometimes it will just start first go, but others it just clicks for around three or four times before it finally starts. We think it might be to do with the auto stick not registering it's in park properly???

Also the head gasket is due to go.

It LEAKS in the passenger side floor and in the boot.

Idling is a problem. It doesn't ever sound that great and at the moment it's around 350km's a tank.

Has anyone else had any of these problems? Any suggestions?

Try checking your earth connection, not just on the battery, but on the chassis as well, also your high fuel consumption and poor running condition could be due to a timing problem.
