"The true Aussie muscle car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The steering rack needed replacing.

Fuel tank was damaged because the car sits so low.

The front spoiler is easily damaged pulling out of driveways and gutters, take care!

This car draws attention, much of it unwelcome. The local police have found it fun to pick on me for obvious reasons. I have also been the victim of idiot vandals who have ruined my paint twice.

General comments?

This car hammers! I have made a 'few' subtle engine improvements such as a complete engine rebuild by Pavtek in Melbourne and it is an absolute weapon in a straight line.

The already excellent handling has been improved by a radical lowering job which has it sitting about 7 cm off the ground!

I have had it re sprayed in pearlescent blue and it is a stunning car visually as well as in performance.

Hi.

I just bought a VN group a as well. I would have to agree with you they are a pretty awesome car, but theres a couple of things I don't agree with that seems to be popular. firstly these cars were built to race on circuits, not 1/4 miles, and definitely don't look the part one the drag strip, one thing I did notice about mine when I got it is how solid it feels when cornering hard. the engine is a bit on the soft side, but that's easily changed. the other thing that makes me shudder is hearing that these cars are painted in a different color from the original. oh well as long as yours are modified it makes mine even rarer.

Hey I'm a 16 year old from WA and I am about to start an apprenticeship and I am interested in over the next few years in purchasing a group a and I was wondering what a fair average price would be. I saw one in a local auto trader for 12,500 and was wondering also if this would mean it is not a genuine group a and just a fake. so if any 1 has any comments for me I would much appreciate some feedback.

It is a fake. The vn ss group A is very rare car and I don't think someone would only want 12,500 for 1 of only 300 in Australia.. if the person lives near by go see the car and check out the badges and other sorts of things that group As have.

A 16 year old should not be able to own one of these machines, you can't handle it and will end up wrapping one of the amazing cars arouind a pole, not to mention thinking of modifying it ARE U THAT STUPID?

I think all you young fellas should go and buy something like a datsun for a first car not a streetable race car.

I agree that a 16 yr old owning a group A for a first car is stupid, I mean I'm 19 and own a worked VN SS 5sp and trust me its enough power, but then again its my first car too and mines at 230 kw and Group A's are 215kw... its not the power that's the main problem (if you can drive it safely) but the fact of how rare the group A's are.

... I wish I owned one... : (

I agree too. No one should have one of these as a first car. My first car was a factory 350 HQ statesman (how rare are they now).Way back in 1984.I ended up beating the hell out of it to the point where it was a complete wreck and was worth nothing. Makes you cry now huh should have listened to my dad and brought an older holden or falcon instead. Start with the basics first get a corolla or a hyundai theres plenty of time to own the classics as I have found out. I have since owned many brock commodores a couple of wrxs and my current ride a black Gtp Ba and they have all been worth the wait. If I had my time over again id be buying something basic for a first car.

I own Group A 406 of 302 built, with only 59,000 kms on the clock.

Always wanted one and finally got one after a long wait to find one at the right price and condition.

I get a little annoyed with the high prices that Walkys are selling at these days and know that the VN SS GROUP A is a much better car in every aspect.

Prices are slowly going up and parts off of stollen or wrote off VN Group A's such as the twin throts are selling up and over 10grand.

Remember people that the VN SS Group A was the first Aus car to have a six speed gearbox in it, and was the most expensive car Holden/HSV/ Australia had released at that stage.

I love mine and have had only minor trouble.

If you've got one, keep it. It will be worth a mint in a few years because they really are the last true Australian muscle car.

My fathers VN Group A (which was bought new) was stolen from a security carpark in 1997,and when it was stolen it was fitted with all of the security devices at the time, but they did not keep the thieves from stealing the car, but the only security device he didn't have was satellite tracking, so if you want to keep your commodore you should pay extra for sat tracking because even if it does get stolen you will know where it is.

Hi ya, i had a VN Group A up untill recently.. It was stolen from a car park in Campbelltown. If they want it.. It won't matter what security you have. i have the whole thing on video. My car was parked for only a short while. Parked at the front door, in an area that was under a video camera, with people walking around, at 1pm in the day. It was fitted with 3 immobilisers, a well known tracking unit, dead locked,2 alarms. They smashed the drivers window, pulled the bonnet, disconected the horns, broke the steering lock, pushed it away with a white ute. The tracking unit was removed within 5 minutes and thrown away. I found the car with no help from the tracking people and had it taken to a friends smash repairs as it only had minor damage. Within 24 hours they had broken into the repair shop and it has not been seen since. So the moral of the story is... If you have one of these cars don't leave it out of your sight and don't be sucked into believing that tracking units are the begining and end of security.. I wouldn't waste my money with them..
