I own a WRX type Ra lightweight model and it is primo, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much boost it runs standard? I'm just looking at upping it and removing the speed cut at 180kms, anyone know anything cheap and easy, but still safe?

I have a 1995 WRX RA in New Zealand, (where we can modify them without any worries or certification!) They run about 7-8 psi depending on exhaust/muffler etc. they have a fifth injector standard so can handle a bit more boost than the average WRX. I would never buy a non STI or non RA model WRX if you plan on going over 100kmhr or go over 4000rpm. I have done a season of autocrosses in this car on gravel and two tarmac hill climbs and although the Mitsi EVO definitely launches Harder and has better mid range torque, the balanced chassis on the WRX means you can carry much more speed through corners and over jumps and really helps the smooth driver. The gearboxes can handle up to about 290HP without modification, but you should always be careful with second. Third and forth are almost unbreakable.
Economy isn't so good when you wind the boost up, at 17 psi, I get on average round town about 320kms from 50 litres of fuel, bad I know, but you can have it both ways!

I own a 1994 WRX Sti type RA, it has a roll cage and is used in rallies etc. Apart from the syncros in 2nd and 5th gear it is a strong car. The best thing you can do is get after market extractors put on so the entry to the turbo does not have that 90 degree bend. This will give you substantially more torque and allows you to reach full boost at 3000rpm. The key to stopping brake fade is in the pads, I used pagids and have found them very good, even from cold. I also run a Link computer system with anti-lag and this makes the engine extremely responsive.
All in all, a fantastic car!

I have bought a WRX Type RA 1994, fantastic car love it, can anyone else tell me how fast theirs is going when it red lines @7000rpm, my speedo reads 120mph I do not believe this to be true? Mike.

Can anyone tell me what the difference between an RA and an STI RA is??? As I'm about to buy a 96 WRX RA. But it's ex japan, so exactly what options it has seems little hard to find out. But what should I be looking for to see if it is an STI. It does have the roof vent, but I believe all RA's have these..

I'm not 100% sure, but I think type RA means its the lightwieght version, and could apply to either the WRX or WRX STI.

The STi RA has the roof vent, the dccd, and the intercooler sprayer, where as the RA only has the dccd.

To the guy who asked for info on STi RA or WRX RA.
The STi will have DCCD & roof vent - no WRX RA had DCCD.

Sti ra has better engine than just an ra forged internals etc. RA is just light weight, sti RA light weight and stronger engine don't know in depth details, but there is definitely a difference!!!

Hi all, check the vin plate; WRX RA ended in 7d. STi RA ended in dd. Hope this helps.

I have recently brought a 1995 WRX RA with a blown engine. Have replaced the engine and it is running the TD05 at standard boost - I guess 12 pound? I am surprised at just how quick these cars are. Not been in an STI, but I'd be surprised if the standard WRX STI (non RS) is any quicker than this - at least to 100kph? Must be the combination of light weight and gear ratios?

Hello there, I have a STi Ra; well I believe it's an STi Ra; it has no roof vent, no ABS, but it has intercooler spray, a roll cage and many Ra sticker on it. I would like to know if anyone could tell me whether my car is a Ra, or just an STi? Many thanks.

I own a WRX STI Type RA, The lightweight version, And its everything and more than I could ever wish for, Mind blowing acceleration and speed, Very thirsty though, (cannot have it both ways) Kev.
