"A possible money trap"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The CV boots ripped at 68,000 miles.

The transmission went out at 72,000 miles.

General comments?

There shouldn't be any reason the transmission went out. I bought it from a Grandma who only put 8,000 miles on it in the 6 years she owned it.

The car is somewhat doggy for a V6.

The reason why the transmission most likely went out, is because Ford Transmissions are prone to go out, unless maintained and serviced regularly, meaning transmission flushes. Which considering being an elderly person that owned the vehicle, she had things done according to mileage, not how long the vehicle sat, and every 2 years or 24,000 miles which ever one comes first the transmission needs to be flushed, and if that's not done, it will be prone to go out. So that would have been the previous owners fault for not maintaining the vehicle by time and mileage, and only for doing things to it by mileage alone.
