"The greatest car ever made"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Put a new starter motor in -- this was not necessary but I did it to head off potential problems.

Battery died.

Pinhole leak due to rust in bottom of radiator.

Major frame and trunk rust due to age of car.

Replaced upper radiator hose due to age.

Seats atrociously worn -- Hence my Comfort Rating of "9" -- It's hard to enjoy driving with a spring sticking in your bum! :)

Air conditioning didn't work, but what else is new with old Cadillacs?

The clock in the dashboard didn't work, but that's another old Cadillac trait.

General comments?

This car was a dead solid reliable car for the two months that I had it. It was my first old Cadillac and I didn't know they could rust in the rear body mounts and trunk pan. Rust was its only major problem. The engine ran great with 134k original miles on the clock, and if it wasn't for the rust, I'd still be driving it today! I was just out of college and couldn't afford to pay someone to do the body work to it.

Never had a single problem with the car in the time that I had it. I'm actively looking for another one to restore.

The body design was sexy and powerful-looking; the car looked like it was moving even when it was standing still. I had the car in a very nice color, Silverpine Green, with a dark green interior and a black vinyl top.

The car had trunk space like you wouldn't believe! Also lots of front and backseat room. I've owned two Cadillacs since then but none of them was as near to my heart as the old '68.

It did use a lot of gas but somehow I didn't really notice, because I was too busy being questioned by admiring strangers while I was filling up or running errands.

I just junked a 68 coupe in green with dark green interior and a vinyl top. I payed 600 bucks Canadian for it and drove it till the cops made me take it off the road. What a ride, all I did was race in town all day. No heat though and in April its not very nice.

I bought a 1966 Deville convertible in 1980 for $2,000. With 53,000 miles on it, it drove like new. However, gas mileage was 8 MPG. The first day I drove the car, I could see the gas gauge dropping as I drove.

Powder blue with a blue leather interior. My first Cadillac at age 28. I felt I had arrived. I owned the car until 1984, when I bought a new Camaro. I must have been out of my mind to sell that car. The car needed many repairs in the 4 years I owned it, but it is the only car that I wish I had kept.

DPC.

8 MPG is actually pretty decent gas mileage, if you do the math you will see.

Do the math? What math? 8 mpg is lousy gas mileage. It was lousy in 1966 when gas was thirty-five cents a gallon and it is really lousy in 2006 now that gas costs 7x as much!

I don't mind spending $120 a week for gas- hey it's worth it to me. Do you not want to pay that much??

The 2006 dodge v10 gets 8mpg to so it is just the same as the new cars.

I drive a big-block muscle car that gets 6-7 mpg, so yes that is decent gas mileage for sure!

Well, I drive a shermin tank to work each day. Gets 1 mpg- so 5mpg is really economical!

I had a 1967 Cadillac Sedan De Ville 429 cid until 1974, and it got roughly 14 mpg in town driving and 18-19 on the highway. During the gas shortage in 73, I went easy on the pedal and got almost 16 around town. I know age affects gas mileage, but I still wonder if maybe your 472 isn't badly carboned up.

Whenever I have a dream where I'm driving somewhere, it's always that gorgeous Cadillac that I dream I'm driving; one hand on the steering wheel with the Cadillac crest in the center, glancing over at the "sterling silver" Cadillac script in the center of the dash, hearing the tuned notes of the distinctive horn. The exterior was Athenian Blue Firemist with a black vinyl top. The interior was black Duchess cloth and leather, with bright metal surrounding the windows and windshield and a stitched headliner that never sagged. I've had some fine Cadillacs since then, but they never quite matched this one.
