Destroyed transmission (4 speed), and rear axle. Both due to hot rodding.
Car has 70,000 original miles, still has original engine. Disc/drum brakes, not power assisted. This car is BRUTALLY fast! It is capable of spinning the tires at highway speed by shifting gears at full throttle.
The 454-LS6 Chevelles are THE king of all muscle cars; (I know from personal experience) Of course, Chrysler guys will never admit to it (i.e. 426 Hemi owners)
Eat my tire smoke Dodge!
(Owner of '70 Chevelle with non-numbers-matching
454-LS6/THM400).
I own one of the few 1970 Chevelle 454/465 LS7 prototypes that never went into production. I couldn't agree with you guys more.
I would love to own one I'm getting my license soon and I'm getting a job so I can get a project car any suggestions on what kind of chevelle I should get for my first car?
If you can afford the cost of purchasing a 1970 Chevelle SS in decent condition AND the insurance costs... Go for the '70 SS!!!
LS-6 454 Chevelle... very fast car, along with the '70-'71 Hemicuda, '68 428 Mustang, '69 440-6 bbl Road Runner, '70 Buick GS 455 Stage 1, etc.
All of these cars are quick, and so close in 1/4 mile times, that in many cases it's the better driver who wins.
Please Pleasae answer my question!
I was wondering if it is possible to put the tail lights and bumber of a 71 0r 72 chevelle onto a 1970 chevelle. I know that it takes the originality away from the car, but I am curious if it is possible...Please! somebody answer my question. love2love@mail.com.
I knew a guy who had a dark green '70 SS 396 Chevelle. I must say it was a nice car, 4 speed and all that stuff. One strange thing I found was the very small gas tank,10 gallons if I remember correctly. It was fast, but I don't think he could have taken my Speed- O- Motive small block,4 speed '69 Camaro convertible. I also knew a guy who had a beautiful'70 454 SS Chevelle, black with white stripes, this one I know there was no chance of beating, too much power and too much torque. My goodness these muscle cars were so available during the mid '70s, it was nothing to see an SS Chevelle sitting on blocks in the middle of a cow pasture and rob it of what ever we needed, rear ends, radiator,4 speed, etc. Once we found a 12 bolt under a '67 SS Chevelle, we told the owner we would be back the following weekend. We didn't make it back that weekend, but did make it the next. He punished my buddy by charging him 35 dollars instead of the agreed on 25 dollars. Good luck on finding a tank of gas for that today. I must also say if I had to restore an old muscle car or just buy a new 07 Shelby Mustang. I would buy the new Shelby-the cost would be the same and the new car would be so much safer. Yes, I have been in several wrecks that were not my fault and thank God for air bags or I would not be writing this right now. Have a good night!
I own both a 440-6 pack charger and a non-# matching LS6
chevelle. They are both 4-speeds and both are beasts off the
line. I built the Chevelle and the Dodge was a graduation
present. I love both cars and late model mustangs can wave
by-by to my taillights in both cars.
THIS IS ANSWERING THE QUESTION FROM THE 11TH OF JULY 05.
I do know someone who put a rear bumper and taillights from a 71 chevelle on a 70. He liked that rear style better, so my answer is YES it can be done. PLEASE write back if you get this!
