Renault has ZERO commitment to customer satisfaction, despite all the claims.
"That's what the warranty is for" is all Renault HO were prepared to offer.
5 weeks at the dealer (at the last attempt) and still not sorted - dealer did not attempt to contact me to update on (no) progress, neither did Renault UK.
Renault take NO responsibility for the poor dealer service and work quality saying it is a dealer matter.
Sold car out of frustration at a loss of £6,000 in 1 year, the dealer would not buy the car either!
I have to agree with your comment on Renault dealers and there attitude.
They appear clueless, allied with the inability to return ANY of your telephone calls.
I have an on going issue with a faulty rear washer, I had dropped by my local dealer last week 30/12/02 to find why it's taking so long, it now stands at 8 weeks.
(it's quicker than phoning - as described they don't return calls!) - I was assured that I would contacted... and here I am writing this one week later!
I'm pulling my hair out... i completely sympathize with your plight.
I too can only agree with the comments made, my 2001 Scenic 1.9 dci Monaco has been totally unreliable. At 32000 the engine blew up at a cost of £4500 (which was covered by warranty) since then the engine management system has failed on several occasions and Renault have failed to fix the problem. In 12 months the car has been off the road for 15 weeks and no replacement car has been provided by Renault. I have requested the car be returned for a refund, but Renault refuse saying the car is too old (14 months) and has too many miles (38.000). Would I have another, NO.
Don't listen to them, your car is not of satisfactory condition, seek legal advice.
I my self have rejected a car, it was not most pleasurable experiences, but I got a new car, which unbelievably had the same faults, it was not a Renault - it was a Nissan.
Stand your ground you have the right to reject anything!!

My local Renault dealer was interested to sell the car to me almost two years ago. I contacted my dealer with a small problem (a small gromit was missing in the dash). He was reluctant to do anything. I forced him to order the part. He did do. Since then I have been back with minor problems and they are not interested. This morning I damaged my front Bumper whilst parking in a shopping centre. I priced the bumper the price jumped to double in matter of few seconds from £150.00 to £300.00. These are prices don't seem right. Is Renault UK being greedy and are running a scam to rip people of UK.
If you are considering buying a Renault Scenic as a family car I would advise you not to do so. My 2001 Scenic 1.9 dci (85,00 miles) which has a full service history has suffered Major mechanical failures as follows in the last 40,00 miles.
1. Turbo charger started to burn engine oil causing a potentially dangerous 'run away' situation when the engine starts to use the sump oil as fuel in an uncontrollable cycle.
2. Gearbox failure when the right hand output shaft sheared. Replacement box and clutch fitted by Renault.
3. Replacement gearbox parted company with mountings leading to another replacement box.
4. Replacement box input seal failed causing failure of the new clutch.
5. New gearbox & clutch has never been 'right' extreme difficulty selecting 1st, 2nd & reverse especially when engine is warm.
6. Every component of the selection mechanism has been replaced with only a minor and short lived improvement in gear selection.
Up until now, almost all faults were repaired under either the manufacturers warranty or the dealers workmanship guarantee so It's not cost me a penny in cash, but there has been an enormous inconvenience.
My dealer has been very fair and provided a replacement vehicle on most occasions.
The Warranty is well expired, but the transmission problem has persisted since the original equipment failed. Renault accept that there is a problem with the car, but now will only share the repair costs which I find unnacceptable. The fault has never been satisfactorily repaired and it is now becoming so bad the car will soon be undrivable.
The dealers last comment was that at 85000 miles the vehicle has almost consumed the planned life of 100000 miles and therefore I should expect to be paying increased maintenance and repair costs. NOTE THE WARNING HERE. RENAULTs ARE EXPECTED TO DIE AT 100,000 MILES - That's A REASSURING SALES LINE! This will be my last Renault. I shall never buy French again.
