I cannot recall anything major going wrong mechanically (knock on wood).
I suppose my biggest peeve can't actually be considered major, because it is purely cosmetic. The trim package around the bottom of the vehicle continually comes loose from the body of the vehicle, which detracts from the aesthetics.
Also, the front end trim - which I had replaced once under warranty - continually bottoms out leaving an ugly scrape right at the 'nose' of the vehicle. The new trim was redesigned (I guess they had to replace a lot of them), but even the new one hits the pavement a lot. Oh well. What do you expect? You want a sleek sporty look... you pay the price.
Finally, my leather interior is becoming worn - especially the driver's seat (again aesthetics).
I've heard some complaints from fellow Camaro owners about T-roof leaks, but thus far I've had no problems.
In fact, the only problem that I have with water penetration is the rear hatch. I can't park facing down on a hill when it's raining. There are channels that were designed to allow the water to run off, but they only work if gravity allows them to. If the car is facing downhill, the water in the channels doesn't run off, it spills over the side... into the vehicle. I suppose I should have listed this in the faults above, but the solution is easy - just don't park facing downhill!
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the vehicle. Even five years down the road, it still turns heads! I consider this an early sign that this vehicle is destined to be a classic - especially since the Camaro is being discontinued.
I agree, The 97' Anniversary Edition was one of the sweetest looking Camaros ever made. I think it looks much better than the new '02 edition. I had the chance to buy a hard top version back in 97... still kicking myself for not buying it.
Haahaa! I picked up a white hard-top with tan leather, cd and a 5-speed that's FLAWLESS! Paid $6,700 cash the day after it was traded in w/64,000 miles. And yes it turns heads... everyone wants to race. As for the front spoiler, you just have to be aware that it's there and not go where it will bottom out. Mine has a small scratch that my wife put there, but it's hard to see. Love the car overall!
I have the 1997 anniversary RS and have replaced practically everything on it. Two transmissions, two air conditioners, seals, brake pads often, two radiators, major engine problems, seals around T-tops and rear hatch. Being a single driver and this car being an automatic, I've lost my faith in Chevrolet Camaro's. I've spent more time driving to the car dealer then I expected.
I have a hard top cherry red 97 RS my only problem so far is a rattle in the engine the dealer claimed to fix it while it was under a GM certified warranty, but of course once the warranty was up the noise came back. Other than that maintaining it is pricey, but it's a beautiful fun car for florida. And being from Buffalo, NY I enjoy driving it year round in Florida.
I have a 1997 Camaro solid white with t-tops tinted windows and a set of proxess fz4 racing tires its bad to the bone I took the stock 200 hp engine and beefed it up to about 300 hp it runs good as far as any problems the only one I have is a slight miss in the engine. The tops don't leak and there's no other problems over all I love my car and so does the women. Somerset Kentucky.
I own a 30th anniversary SS. One of six made in Canada. It has all the options. I reordered leather factory seat covers. I also changed rear-end to a 4:11.I am very pleased. I have left everything in the town of bristol sitting in the rear view mirror all makes and models bring it on!

I have a 97 Z/28 aniversary edition. It has 167000 miles on it and so far it's been a really good car. I've owed 10 Camaros some with self installed big blocks. They are the best. I have a service engine lite on now and the dealer read the code for me. He said it was a low flow condition on the left bank. naturally it cost 800 dollars to fix. They also said that they would change the O2 sensor. I haven't let them touch the car yet, and probably won't. has anyone else had this fault show up? my email address is 363f16cspec19@psab.af.mil.
1997 30th anniversary Z-28.
I love this car, though I have had a few minor problems such as the window motors going out. The drivers side seat is getting worn. I am going to fix all the stuff I haven't gotten to yet this month. I want to restore it to show room condition. I need to sell it also, I have no idea what a good price is. I have the only Z-28 anniversary sold at Dale Earnhardt Chevy. Does anyone know what these cars are going for? or any buyers?
I've recently purchased a white 97 RS with t-tops. So far, I love the car, it's fun to drive and is in perfect condition except for an irritating rear-end howl?? The car has 53,000 miles on it and is beautiful.
Just purchased a 97 with T-tops and the 200hp v6 for my wife. We love the car it has more than enough power for her, but I will probably add some more later. Has anyone replaced the factory stereo themselves? I would like to know if there is a jumper plug that bypasses the factory amp. junkytoo@yahoo.com.
This is one great car! I have owned my 97 30th anniversary silver convertible with all the options for 4 years. I drive it 50 miles each way to work and have about 95K on it now. I've only had to replace a pump kit and some gaskets in the trans, otherwise it is totally reliable. Mods include flowmaster, airfoil and K&N. I stuck some 255 50's on it and with the optional stiff suspension it sticks like a vette. On another note, for those of you that are tall (I'm 6'7") you can stretch out in this 'sports car' better than many full sized cars. Love to hear that LT1 scream! For my next car, how about the SS?
I purchased the 97 RS a few weeks back, from the original owner. This thing is in mint condition. The alternator was replaced shortly after he bought it new, and he has replaced a window motor. GM Factory chrome wheels are awesome and shine like new -and they clean up so easily.
52K on the clean engine (V6 200HP, 245 foot pounds of torque) - its enough power for me, I'm not racing it, and the gas mileage is good.
T-Tops are fine, Has been maintained and still is with Vaseline. Has all the options, 8 speakers churn out some big clean sound with deep bass, and I love the rear wheel anti slip detector option- I use it when its raining.
I've got new Firestone Firehawks-and with the tight suspension, this thing grips
and handles like nothing I've driven before.
The interior is mint, and also I was surprised by how much room a person has in it.I'm glad I didn't buy the Corvette.
I even got in the back seat, and its not bad for short trips. I also love the rear seats folding down - I have a dog, and that's where she'll be able to ride.
Excluding the dog, this car provides, for 2 people, an adequate amount of space for luggage, grocery shopping etc.
I'm holding onto this thing- I've never been in a 7 year old car that still feels new--it's a beautiful ride!
Yesterday I bought a red '97 RS. It is a dream car. The interior is in mint condition, the paint is shiny, nothing even close to a dent, and the engine runs like it's brand new. It has the ground effects and spoiler, the monsoon sound system, which is very surprisingly good. It drives as easy as any car I've driven, and corners as good as a corvette (I know). Great leg room, and I fit in it perfectly.
It turns heads continually, and I have already gotten many comments on it from co-workers that think it is a beautiful car. And the best thing is I got it for only $4200!
I just got a 97 rs and it's perfect. The guy who had it before must have kept in the garage because it's flawless and has only 39k miles on it. It's so much fun to drive and I call her the "silver pearl" because of my pirate air freshener. I am in love with this car!!!
