My engine seized at 169,000 kilometers, but this was due to a problem with the oil pump and oil pump gauge. There was no oil pressure in the engine, but the gauge was reading pressure. I spent $3900.00 Canadian for the new engine and a new clutch.
Other than that, the problems have all been minor and I feel that this is a great car. Just wish I had known about the gauge before it was too late. Oh well.
2nd gear grinds from time to time, but once you're used to it you find your way around it.
Minor problems with driver's side mirror shorting out half in the upward motion half way up, but only shorts out for a second.
All in all, I would say it's a great car. Very fast for a non-turbo also. Surprised me a lot. Beat Honda's right off the road.
Why would you buy a non turbo talon? you could buy a neon r/t that would blow the doors off your car. Adding a turbo will cost a bit, probably around 1500 (CAN), but will boost hp from 140 to 220, and is the easiest, and most effective upgrade available for any car, not just a talon. (if you do buy a turbo, don't get a stock eagle/mitsubishi turbo; get an aftermarket one, because they are cheaper and better)
Perhaps some people are not about rice burning cars that drive fast. Following this persons advice on adding an aftermarket turbo onto a stock vehicle is going to have your vehicle blow up. In order to properly install an aftermarket turbo on a Talon it would require a rebuild of the engine using upgraded components.
