"Best choice for sedan speed freaks"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Normal replacements only - brake pads etc.

General comments?

In my humble opinion, this is the best value hi-performance mid-sized sedan in the world. It's only drawback is it's extremely rare outside of Japan.

The engine is a 280hp stock 1JZ-GTE 2500cc twin turbo unit, identical to the unit in the current Toyota Supra (my other car), except with a shorter stroke giving 500cc less total displacement. It's an easily upgradeable motor too - a few simple tweaks have taken my car up to the 350hp range.

Stepping on the gas pedal at any speed causes the car to leap forward with frightening turbo thrust. This can be a problem in the wet however; even the traction control can't stop 300+hp to the rear wheels from kicking the tail out wildly.

In stop-light battles, it's virtually unbeatable. German sports sedans (even BMW M-series cars) rarely present any problems, and Honda Accord Type-R's, Nissan Maxima's etc just aren't in the same league with this turbo monster.

The interior is comfortable, although not hugely interesting or impressive design-wise. The cars worst feature is evident here, that being the plastic-wood finish on the center console. It looks very close to the real thing, but it's still just a plastic copy...

The exterior is attractive and smooth, but perhaps a little understated. It looks a bit like a more up-market version of a Camry, giving little hint of it's serious performance. However, this is an advantage for "sleeper" fans - you'll get challenged a lot in this car, and virtually never lose (I will admit a Lancer EVO got the best of me once, but it was close).

My advice - if you can find one near you, buy it. If you can't, do what I did: go to Japan and bring one back with you!

I also own a 93' Mark II Tourer V and could not agree more. This car has been a blast, but the limited English information on the car is making it hard for me to take it back to the united states. If anyone has ever shipped one could you let me know the details or if you know of any English info on the car could you shoot me an email to point it out to me.

I just bought a Toyota Mark II Tourer S. I should have known about the V series.

There are companies here in Japan that specialize in looking for the car you want, upgrading it to US standards if necessary and shipping it to any destination.

About conforming to US standards for importation to US, The US customs have those informations.

This page is nice, but couldn't you put here any more technical details? I have got a Mark II Grande-G 2.5, Japanees rigth handed model. So what's the difference between this one and Tourer-S modification?

The difference between Tourers and Grandes is:

(1) Interior

Tourer Series are more simple and sporty than Grande.

Grande is more luxurious than Tourers.

Grande G is the most luxurious in Mark II series.

(2) Suspentions are different. Tourer Series have sport suspension and wheels.

(3) Engines.

Grande, Touror : 2000cc NA

Grande 2.5, Grande G 2.5, Touror S : 2500cc NA

Tourer V : 2500cc Turbo

Grande 3.0, Grande G 3.0 : 3000cc NA.

Mark II is just senior to Camry in rank of Toyota cars. In Japan, Mark II is called "Oyaji-guruma" (father's car), and one of most popular car like Carolla.

(Sorry, I have a sort of English.)

Mark II Tourer-V? That is one hell of a monster I would wanna cruise. I now own a Toyota Mark II Grande 1990, 2.0L Straight 6. Very quiet, but is really tortured by muddy dirt roads here in Uganda (East Africa). It skids at every mud found!

Fuel consumption, 1 liter to 9 kms, not very bad for a mileage of 120,000km.

Biggest problem I have, the car is smoking real bad and the engine oil indicator appears weekly after refilling engine oil. What could be the problem?

Anyone knows where I can get a Tourer-V, 2500cc Twin-Turbo, preferably black with a sunroof, cruise control, traction control, 4-ABS, 16 inch alloys and below 50,000kms?

Already for several years I used several Mark II Tourer Vs. I love this car and can't drive anything else. I'm from Russia and never knew one can import a right-handed vehicle to the U.S. Anyway I imported it directly from Japan. 1JZ-GTE with boost cut, fuel cut controllers, speed limit defencer and other stuff can produce more than 400 HP with only about $600 investments. With these modifications it drives on AT mission faster than a MT stock Supra. My results on 1.4 mile were 13.2-13.3 seconds on standard tires (not drag radials). Stock Supra does 13.5 at best. So my point is Mark, this flawless car, looking like a family sedan and performing like a tuned Supra is awesome for street racing... being a wolf in sheep's clothing :-)

I bought a second hand Mark2 1jz-gte few weeks ago and I think its one of the best cars ever... just got the T04r single turbo fixed on it which made a lot of difference I still can't go for high boost yet waiting for the 550cc injectors to be delivered and few more modifications... I am very happy with this car and I am planing to go for 600hp at least.

I brought my 96 model Mark II Tourer V on Aug 2003 with 3" cat back exhaust, boost control and H.K.S. coil overs. On a dyno it produced 177.7kw at wheels running about 12psi there will be more mods to come like a front mount, ECU and ballbearings, steel turbines and high flowing of the turbo's I'm hoping to produce anywhere between 260 to 300kws at wheels. This car has been by far the best car I've ever owned this is my 6th Toyota.

I have had my 1993 Toyota Mark II Tourer V auto 1jz-gte (2.5 twin turbo) for 2 months and I can say it is the best car I have driven. I used to own a turbo Supra and this car beats it standard with ease, plus it comfortably fits 4-5 people unlike the supra. I bought it for $13,000 Australian and for that price nothing comes close to the performance and practicality of the car.

I live in Okinawa japan and I bought a rare 5 speed version of the 93 Toyota mark II tourerV. I have put HKS boost control, HKS ajustable suspension, HKS front-mount, HKS full carbon fiber intake, full exhaust, 2jz piston rods for better stroke, full Bomex body kit, 9 poiint roll cage, 18 inch rims with 265's on the back, racing computer, bigger turbines, the car reached 600 hp a couple months ago when I didn't have all the items on it. just yesterday night I raced a R34 GTR and beat him with great ease.

American_hate_group@hotmail.com don't be offended because of the email, it's a skate group here in Okinawa.
