"Fast, but costly family vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

98,000: Alternator went out.

101,000: Front driver and both rear brakes went out.

103,000: Muffler developed holes.

103,000: All the fuses blew simultaneously (I have no clue how this happened).

110,000: Turbo developed holes (it became almost completely useless).

120,000: Alternator went out again.

125,976: Blew the engine.

General comments?

Spacious interior, very spacious.

Good stock sound system.

Repairs in early life generally few and far between, but became more frequent as the vehicle ages (I knew the previous owner).

Real quick on the acceleration.

Comfortable seats and pleasant interior.

End of life repairs become costly.

13.6 mpg city driving due to the malfunctioning turbo.

Sounds like it wasn't well cared for to me, which could easily have contributed to those problems. Turbo's always need more maintenance, more frequent oil changes and need to be serviced themselves. Brakes need changes of fluid and machining at regular intervals. And if you blew the engine something's seriously wrong with how you treat the car.

I have a 1989 Plymouth Voyager SE Turbo and it's amazing. At 126,500 miles, it's still going strong. Had a few minor problems this year with it, but you have to expect chronic maintenance on an older vehicle. The Transmission has been leaking recently, but after changing the seals a few times it seems to be fine. The Turbo is very powerful and it still gets almost 300 miles to the tank of gas. Not bad for an old van. I love my voyager.

My voyager has run strong for the past couple of years I have owned it. We had the head rebuilt last year, and that seemed to fix all of the problems, up until last week. We are now having troubles with the head again, but oddly enough not from overheating. Wish me luck!

I own this car, and at 156.8 miles, Shes still running fine. The running costs are high, but it's worth it for such a good car. I recommend this car, if you can find one in good shape. It's still a great van!

I own a 89 turbo Caravan and I have added Saab innercooler, cold air intake, msd coil and a 2.5 inch exhaust and it will reach up to 200kmh/120mph easily.
