1994 Ford Explorer XLT from North America - Comments

"Unreliable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission replaced at 90,000 miles.

Automatic 4x4 hubs failed, replaced with manual locking hubs.

Radiator tank cracked, radiator replaced.

Tires recalled.

Drivers side power window failed.

Lift-gate fell off and was recalled/replaced.

Cruise control does not always work.

General comments?

The Explorer is a bit top-heavy and is clumsy.

Under-inflating tires to improve ride will cause Firestone tire blowouts.

The Explorer eats gas.

A foreign car would probably be more reliable.

I believe that the review was OK. If all the recalls are listed in the review than it was a great review.

You should also mention that the spare tire cable is likely to break due to corrosion. It happened to me while I was driving along a highway. While another vehicle was hit by the bouncing spare wheel there were no injuries or damages.

Lost the spare tire on my 94 Ford Explorer. Cable broke.

Don't know when or where. Hope no one was killed by it.

Also had a 85 Dodge Caravan with the same cable system.

Found that tire in my driveway after I backed over it.

Time to recall this unsafe system.
