Rear brake shoes needed to be replaced.
The starter motor failed.
Cloth upholstery was worn.
Floor was rusted completely through on the passenger side.
I've owned many vehicles since I gave up my 1970 Rebel SST hardtop and have never enjoyed any of them like I did the Rebel.
Despite the troubles with rust, the Rebel was the best car I ever had.
The 304 cubic inch V-8 performed as well as many larger V-8s made by the big three. AMC offered more powerful engines, but I was satisfied with the 304.
With the SST package, the Rebel was equipped with a suspension that rode like a Cadillac, but handled like a Chevelle, taking turns very well and easily weaving through traffic.
My car was equipped with a four speaker AM/FM stereo that sounded great and filled the cabin of the Rebel with music perfectly.
Racing the Rebel was a hoot. I enjoyed walking away from much newer cars on long streets and roads that had no traffic signals and few police patrols.
I miss my Rebel. These days I scan the classified ads looking for a good one. When it turns up, I won't hesitate to buy it.
I'm sorry to hear that you no longer have your beloved rebel, they are really nice cars, but very underrated. I currently own 2 rebel sst's,343 auto's. If you love them so much maybe I'll just sell you one of mine! Would you like that? They are both currently under restoration, but I own so many muscle cars that they are just taking up space. If you know of any mopar muscle car rust buckets (prefer b-body's) coronets or anything, maybe we can trade. If not I'll give it to you for a pretty reasonable price.I'll post my number later if you are interested.
I know of a 1970 AMC Rebel SST for sale. It is all original with something like 84,000 original miles on it. It is a 2-door with a 340. If anyone is interested please e-mail me at studentothorse@aol.com. It is in CA. and it runs. It needs minor body work. It has had one owner, well I guess 2 now.
I have the best rebel outthere... completely original with high performance motor.. no rust never been restored or re painted... a treasure to have a great...great investment.
Can someone help me?
I have a chance to buy a Bright yellow Rebel.
How do I know if it is a SST?
What is this car worth?
Does anybody have another SST for sale?
Please email me at zoobar99@aol.com.
Thank you.
Hi I'm 17 turning 18 soon and I bet I'm the youngest car buyer there is, maybe. I bought many cars like two 1984 strech limo's, but the best was my 1970 AMC SST rebel. I am fully restoring it because it was in an old junk lot. I bought it for $350. and it still ran, all lights are in great shape and headliner was perfect, I have been taking every thing apart and getting it rebuild not replaced, and I found out that someone before me has started rebuilding it already. I plan to make it an every day car. I was wondering how rare are these cars because I have the only rebel in town and on the internet you can barely find any history or pictures. I have all ready put new carpet in it, rebuilt the motor, changed all fluids, and all, had all the chrome shined up, redone the seats, replaced the tires with dayton sr racing tires, changed the brakes, and lots more. I think the best thing about buying an old car is working on it.
Hi, if any of you are ever looking to buy a American Motors Rebel, please note there are dozens of them for sale on my website, FREE, under the AMC Classifieds, but more so under the AMC Cars For Sale file. Both are free services I have provided to the AMC hobby for a long time!
Being a big fan of the Rebel, I have a convertible Rebel 'Machine' many of ya'll have seen thru the years. It is one of my top three favorite cars out of 302 AMC vehicles I have personally owned so far; 14 currently. There was only 823 of them made, and mine is the documented heaviest optioned one produced in 1968, the last year AMC sadly would make a convertible. Did you know that there were more options available for the Rebel than for the top of the AMC line Ambassador including DPL and SST editions?
The Rebel Series, especially from 1967-70 was a wonderful intermediate from AMC. If you ever have a chance to own one, you will understand! Eddie Stakes' Planet Houston aMX www.planethoustonamx.com.

1970 AMC Rebel 2 Door Hardtop 53,495 Miles.
Up for sale is my 70 AMC Rebel 2 door Hardtop 304 automatic, manual brakes, power steering. Since I have owned the car I have replaced all 4 wheel cylinders, hard ware and brake shoes all 4 corners. I replaced master cylinder, new tires, new upper ball joints, fuel pump, new hoses, and belts, a new rebuilt carburetor. The cars front end is tight and goes down the road straight and tight. I installed a vinyl top correct material and correct seams. The car was originally a 2 tone yellow top green bottom. I did not like the color so I had an upholstery shop install a vinyl top.
This car came out of Arkansas so it is super clean there are 2 minor spots only on the doors of the car. There in the same place on both doors the weep holes got plugged with dirt and when rain got in the doors it retained water. I personally pulled all of the chrome molding and clips and rear window out of the car and there was no rust or holes that usually show up in the 2 corners of the of the rear window. I polished the window chrome and purchased new retaining clips and had them installed. The chrome on the car is in very good shape not pitted or dented. The does need window sweeps they are not in the greatest shape I am looking for them, but not located them as of yet. All windows roll up and down with out any issues. The car is a pleasure to drive and to take to shows.
The underside of the car is beautiful no rust anywhere frame rails floor boards inner rockers fenders.
The only thing that does not function on this car is the fuel sending unit (gas gauge) I have not located a sending unit to solve this problem. All lights work interior lights courtesy under dash lights. The original bench front and rear seat is like the day it left Kenosha. It has a rubber mat no carpet. There are 2 small cracks on the dash of the car. The headliner is starting to separate from the fiber board. The chrome mirrors are in good shape. The trunk is in great shape still showing the original spatter paint from the factory. The trunk mat needs to be replaced. The car is missing the correct horn button for a non SST car so I installed a horn button from a 67 rebel. The steering wheel is free of cracks it is very nice shape. There are some very minor scratches and minor dings in the car, but not bad for a 37 yr old car.
The engine bay needs some cleaning, but nothing major.
I would not hesitate to drive this car to Texas tomorrow.
This is a great driver and a great car it only needs a paint job to bring it over the top. I am sure I missed something if you have any questions ask them and I will get back to you with the answer. Any questions call 262-391-6121.

I'm on my second 1967 AMC Rebel SST Convertible.
Fantastic lines, gorgeous curves, aggressive stance (with the appropriate tires and wheels.)
All in all, the sweetest late 60's American muscle you never heard of.
