Front left bushes have worn, very easy to replace.
ABS sensors get dirty very quickly on the front and rear of the car causing the ABS light to come on, easily cleaned.
Fantastic car, I chose the 2wd over the 4wd for performance. Not a cossie killer, but can hold its own against others. The 2.0 16v I4 engine is very well built and very responsive. A real drivers car handles corners very well.
Spot on, just enough power for todays roads.
Good review, good to see someone rates this great performance car, they are quite underrated. I recently bought one myself and I love it, loads of power, awesome handling and purposeful, but subtle looks - I did consider a Golf GTI 16v, Astra GSI - all about
the same power, I now don't regret buying the RS 2000 - I could go on, think I will write my own review!
I just traded my 1996 Escort in. I have to admit that this
is a good car. My teenage daughter, who drives recklessly
also drove this car. The only problems I had with it, was
the "check engine" light came on a month after I bought the
car, and the Dealer couldn't get it to go off. This little
car has a lot of power, and performs well.
Hi, I have an RS 2000 and love it to bits. only one problem, the negine is becoming very tempermental. It tends to idle at 900, then 1100, then 1500, then back down to 900 revs. I have no idea what is causing this so I'm hoping someone can help?
Cheers.
Any suggestions please email me at paul.leck@sage.com.

Yes great to see these reviews for the RS2000. They are a very underrated car and never got the respect they deserved. The 150bhp engine is a lot quicker on the road than the performance figures dictate and loves to be revved hard, really comes alive at 4000rpm and will surprise many of the bigger powered cars. Although many might not believe it they are quicker than an Astra GSI. Only problem so far is eats brake pads, maybe me driving? and needs a wheel bearing, done approx 10k since owned. 2wd quicker is than 4wd, but very hard to get grip in the wet!! Great all round quick motor and would def recommend it.
One of the last SVE-tweaked Fords and a cracking car. Unfortunately, it was based on a car which, not to put too fine a point on it, was a pile of crap, and hence it suffers the same stigma. However, if you look at the suspension, steering and mechanical components of the RS2000, very little of it is shared with a standard Escort. Hence it's a damn good car.
Silly value at today's prices as well.
I bought my rs2000 about 3 months ago and love it to bits this car although 12 years old holds its own performance wise and styling against modern euro boxes, i don't think this car could ever get a bad review.

I've had my rs 2000 for about 3 months now and I think its great. I have added 17'' alloys for better grip in corners and acceleration (not that it needed it) but now it looks the daddy. I love the bumps in the bonnet and the bigger bumpers, they make it stand out next to similar cars age and performance wise. the fact that you can pick up a mint '91 model for about a grand, and get all electrics, heated front screen, mirrors and washer jets, ABS, recaro's etc.. makes this a superb bargain which cannot be beaten.
