One time in 2001 my fuel pump decided to not work. This had come as no surprise since the car had always given me trouble when starting with less than 1/4 of a tank.
Nonetheless, we got the car towed, and the car was ready the next day and we owed $50 for the deductible on the warranty. Bottom line: The tow was paid for, the service was paid for, the only drawback of the incident was the fact that we didn't receive a loaner from the dealership given it was 6:00 p.m. and the dealership was closed.
That aside no other major component has gone bad;
I replaced the front and rear brakes because they were worn not defective.
I replaced the spark plugs (very easy to do)
I flushed and filled the coolant.
Other than normal maintenance I haven't
had any real problems, the car has never left me stranded.
If there's one thing that other people with Chrysler products have complained about to me is the automatic transmission. The vehicle doesn't want to start in 1st gear or hesitates or doesn't want to go, I have only one comment: Purchase a 5 speed manual. I have enjoyed that ever since the day we rolled it out of the dealership. The gearing of the transmission is actually quite unbelievable; 3rd gear tops at 90 4th
at 115.
That aside, I have taken this car on 2 annual vacations 750 miles each way straight through with no trouble.
The best thing I can say for my car is the fact that I've taken care of it:
Washing, waxing, oil changes, maintenance, etc.
It will run forever...
I Have a 1998 dodge neon and have not had too many problems with the vehicle. I love the car very much. I had to replace the original breaks at 85000 and I had to replace the head gasket at 59998 mile under an extended warranty. But like you said the vehicle is very fast. I pulled a 17.89 down the 1/4 mile stock and now that I put in a cold air intake and an exaust I am running 16.50. Every vehicle needs to be taken care of. all I have to say is if you have major problems on your neon or any other vehicle for that matter. TAKE CARE OF IT. Change the oil, coolant. etc. my neon has never left me stranded.
This is a great car, I recommend everyone get this car, its quick and reliable, and never has any problems with it, its cheap for how much you get out of it, good gas miles, and quit. Easy to put a system in, and nice back seats that can fold down, the only bad thing is it does not come with a tach, but the high-line is only a 4cyl so you can't ask for everything.
I also have not had any problems with my 2000 chysler neon. It has been a very good car, the only thing I have to complain about it that there is not tach. I have recently put on in by the front left tweeter, and believe me it comes in handy when you push that car to it's limit. I have also put in a new exaust and it sounds awsome. Well anyone that wants to buy a cheap little racing machine that you can mod up, believe me go with neons, they may be small, but they pack a pretty good punch.
