"Best Holden ever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Needed new radiator when I bought it.

Head gasket blew at 190000km.

General comments?

Best car ever, with good performance, economy and reliability.

One of the best looking cars ever produced by Holden, with its sixties' styling and old school interior.

Can be turned into a really tough car with a set of mags, lowered suspension and a V8 or newer V6 under the bonnet.

It would be a good idea that the author does not consider "hotting up" his EH. An EH has good performance, even with the 149ci Red motor. When the owner of an EH modifies his car with a V8 transplant, the value of the car will always depreciate whereas if the car is kept stock, the value can only, but go up. It would also be cheaper in the long run to restore the car as per its original specifications whereas the cost of beefing up the EH's front end and drivetrain to accommodate a V8 will run into the thousands.

If you are thinking of putting a V8 engine into an EH Holden, don't do it!

It wrecks the car completely, it will cost more to run, cost more to put the engine in there anyway and one more reason is that the almost all Aussie cars are fine with their original engine.

Please, keep the car as original as you can. These cars are a symbol of Australian history and should not be stuffed around with!

The EH Holden with a 179 red motor is all I need.

A V8 is probably not needed when you are the owner of an EH. I am planning to purchase one soon and shall place a 186S red motor in it bored to a 192ci. Add a race cam, head and a bigger carburettor aswell as a set of extractors, and it should go like a gem, but still keep its holden heritage. But I may also bolt on a HR front end and Celica box to cope with the power!

I own a 1963 Eh premier sedan and I plan to put in a 253 V8 in it. I think that it will look and go fine and will still be completely AUSSIE!!!

I agree that EH was one of the best Holdens ever, never in

the history of the most praised model, been replaced by the

undeniably worst ever!! even GMH called the HD 'Horrid Design!'

and the HR was 'Hurridly Rectified' (but still not much better than HD).

Hmm, a V8 conversion can only devalue an EH? What kind of comment is that? Any well built, well engineered classic will hold its value, in financial terms, as well as a fully "restored" car, regardless of drivetrain etc. The true value, as any car lover, restorer, hot-rodder, race driver or collector knows, is in the enjoyment of the car! that means driving, polishing, modifying, rebuilding... lots of different things to lots of different people! As they say...whatever floats your boat!!!

My H is powered by a VL turbo 5 speed and taking out the 179hp was the best move of this cars life. A set of 17inch chrome's and dropped on it guts make my H turn heads and I love it I will never sell it.

Hi, at the moment I am 14 and planning to buy an EH when I am sixteen and doing it up. Dropping in a VS or a VT motor, or a 254 or 253 in it, and putting extractors in it and stuff like that. if I have the money by then, also can you tell me if I have to modify any thing when I put a new motor in it.

Thanks

P.S Eh's would have to be the best

holden ever!!

Well OK I own a EH mine is a Winton Red with a white roof. I runs a Bored out 202 bored(too about 206 to 209) block with a 186 head. all chrome bit's and peaces. I just fitted a pair of real good H4 head lights way better than the pooh sealed ones it had. A very hot Cam huge valves like they nearly touch together. big twin carbies HQ front end TORANA racing brakes up front, looking to up grade the rears to some sort of good disk (ANY IDEAS?) there standard drums right now. 5 speed gear box. 5 spoke drag way wheels 13"x7" with 245 tires it is lowered and has 4" pipes the wickedest sound that the cops seem to pick on me for. Inside I have a racing style leather steering wheel black carpet original seats recovered in new red leather and a spic new dash set up with a polished alloy back with new gauges (guess what they're in Km/h) Pioneer head unit (with remote) and 12 stacker 6" sony Xpolde component speakers 220 Watt rear 6"x9" 3 way Sony Xplode 240 watt in the boot I have a pair of pioneer 12" 1200 watt subs with huge out put amps thought out powering it all I mean like I can win sound comps, but it sounds like realy good at normal level. good to show and people love looking. BY the way before you get any ideas of stealing it I have a $1000 alarm on it with high tech door locks like the orignals you could open any key that fitted in the hole. but yer even with the wicked alarm I still use me orignal steering lock that cost me $89 you know the one that goes on the pedal and the steering wheel. I'll finsh by saying that this was my dad's car and I'm 16 now he has had it 18 years. Oh in a previous post some one asked how hard it is to put say a VL Nissan motor in the EH don't you need to change so many things around just get ur red motor fixed with titanium valves and seats and then run unleaded with good carbies don't go for the VL nissan motor or any thing like that.

Hello I'm am 15, my dad bought me an EH premiere Wagon. My dad and I are now restoring my EH and his two other cars, an EK and a 1961 Chrysler Newport.

Even though I'm 15 I still reckon that the 179hp red engine is by far the best, and I think if you put a V8 in an EH you're a tool.

I have a Eh wagon which is my first car I'm now 18. Its got a mild 202, trick trimatic, Hr Front end, HQ master cylinder, disk front, interceptor style Volvo rims, and dumped on its nuts. Paint is Ford (BA) Blood Orange. A pair of 12" Kicker Subs and an awesome stereo it's a nuts cruiser.

Although it a 202, I think V8 conversions are good, but not a crappy 253 go for the SB Chev or even a LS1.

Stay Cool

Eh's 4ev

Cooper!

I'm 16 and am planing on getting an eh soon. I think dropping in a v8 is mad and will make it sound so much better. Also lowering it, mags and a new glossy black paint job would make it look wicked.

Nathan Rules.
