2000 Volvo S70 GLT SE from North America - Comments

"A safe, comfortable, high-performance ride"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The turn-signal/emergency flasher control failed.

The crash sensor for airbag deployment failed.

The steering column ring antenna (for the encrypted ignition key) started to fail.

A relay for the electric right-rear passenger window failed.

General comments?

This car has lots of power and gets excellent gas mileage.

The seats are very comfortable and the various instrument controls are well placed.

The electronic climate control system works very well.

I have experienced a few problems, all related to electrical issues, but they have all been fixed under warranty.

I owned a 2000 Volvo S70 GLT for about 2 years. I bought the car through the Army Air Force Forces Exchange Service's Volvo Purchase Program. The program saved me about $6K off the regular sticker price and I paid nothing in taxes to boot. Although I did like the car and still think it's a classy design, the car had so many electrical problems I eventually traded it on a more reliable Toyota. In less than 20K miles I replaced both front headlights, the drivers power seat motor, a rear taillight and had the battery replaced 3 times. Of course the service from Volvo was great and it was all under warranty, but I was concerned about what would happen once the warranty expired and I had to start paying for the $350 headlights.

$350 headlights? That's a little odd... unless you got some HID lights or you're talking about the physical lens and reflector thing that was damaged. Otherwise, light bulbs run about $15 for this car.

However, your electrical problems sound like they were caused by a faulty voltage regulator in the alternator-- it was probably putting out too much voltage, and burning everything out.

I have owned a 2000 Volvo GLT SE for seven years and have had no problems with it except having to replace a headlight bulb and a tail light bulb. It has 60,000 miles and has been a wonderful car. I am getting a new car and am selling this one to my son. Usually I would have reservations about selling any car to a relative or friend, but not with this one. He is looking forward to owning it and will get many more miles out of it. I would recommend this car to anyone as long as it has been well taken care of.

Purchased from local NJ dealer used with 50K miles.. no warranty purchased... Car now has 138,000 miles and rides and runs new.

Can't imagine this vehicle with a turbo... The non-turbo 5 cylinder has plenty of "pep" and handles its own on the InterState...

Only problems were in front end--tie rods, sway bar, etc went bad... costly but worth it...

Fit and finish excellent... heated seats great and AC is very powerful.

Dealer tells me these models are in demand and getting top dollar on the used market... I'd buy another Volvo based on this car...
