1994 BMW 8 Series 840 cI from UK and Ireland - Comments

"An expensive mistake"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump and thermostat failed, pumping water all over the engine.

BMW didn't tighten the radiator hose properly with similar results.

Brake pump failed.Fixed under independent warranty. Would have cost £1400.

Starts every time, though.

General comments?

Seats are comfortable, but hard.

Acceleration is very good for such a heavy car.

Good on staight, flat roads, but not on twisty, pot-holed british roads.

Solid build quality.

Heavy depreciation, lost £6000 in 10 months.

At the time you bought this car, good ones were available in Germany for about 10,000 pounds.

I don't see why UK values should be very different, but I'm guessing you bought from a dealer and sold to a dealer or just paid too much and asked too little for it.

Depreciation drops off to almost nothing after about 7 years and a car in good condition will always sell well, unless you have to dump it quickly.

You were unlucky with yours, I think.

I looked at many cars, bought the best one I could find, and sold for the same price after one year.

I was lucky nothing went wrong in that time.
