"Total satisfaction for the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The fuel pump solenoid would over heat at high revs and starve the carburettors of fuel. This was replaced by a Moprod fuel pump and is now running great.

Front discs and pads replaced.

Bad earth causing problems with indicators.

General comments?

These cars are excellent value for money at the current market prices.

The car handles great and is very quick of the mark.

The Excel is supposed to be a four seater, but if you are 5'10''or more the leg room behind you is about nil.

The car looks stunning and is a real head turner.

Good to see that you have been enjoying what must surely be one of the most underrated performance cars of the last few decades. I'm not surprised that you gave the performance 10/10 though - you last car was a Ford Ka!

It really is time the Lotus Excel was recognized as the masterpiece that it is. I have owened three and I loved them all. Most people don, t realize that the Excel SE is faster and handle, s better the the famous Esprit right up to the point where Lotus fitted a turbo. So come on Excel owners put this car on the map. Absolutely agree that this car is so-undervalued. It's affordable and performs beautifully. It turns heads. It is a cheap super-car.

You have to ignore the bad bodywork, the doors that rattle on the hinges at 100mph, and the wind whistling through the gap between the door and the pillar.

The car has a heavy cable that runs from the pos terminal on the battery, along the length of the car, and then 1 metre from the starter motor (and general panel feed) it is split and bolted. Replace it with a full length one!
