The only thing to go wrong with this 1/2 ton, was the master brake cylinder. This truck would run when all the others wouldn't.
This truck usually turns heads. I bought it for $2000, 7 years ago. It had 4 new tires, a new stereo, and a new custom paint job. It made me wonder as to how much I actually paid for the truck (4 tires-$500, stereo-$250, custom paint-$1000).
The worst thing about this truck is the gas mileage. I get about 8 miles to the gallon, long trips are out of the question, since the gas gauge does not work (it always points at E).
International Trucks never came with a 306.
I have a 1973 1010 which I bought in 1987 for $200.00. It has ran flawlessly from 77,000 miles to 234,000 miles. It averages 14.9 mpg uphill, downhill and anywhere else. It has a 392 with a 2bbl.
I did rebuild the front suspension which is torsion bar. No small task finding all the parts to do so, but I finished it last year. It now steers perfectly.
I have had a relationship with International trucks since I was a small child through my dad and uncle who always owned International Harvester products. Extending my love of International, I also have an International Cub Cadet lawn tractor with the mower attachment. Just the absolute best.
