Smell of petrol whenever the vehicle is started.
I have only owned this car for two weeks and I can't wait to sell it on. It's expensive to run and has poor performance being a 3sp Automatic.
Hi,
I have owned a 1992 Ford Laser, 5 speed manual hatchback for over three years now.
It has done about 220,000 kilometers and I have never had any problems with it.
These cars seem to have a good track record in terms of reliability. Maybe the example you own may have been poorly looked after in the past, it sounds to me like it may be in a neglected condition, as for the poor performance and fuel economy - it probably needs a good service and a tune, as for the Automatic Transmission - that probably needs an overhaul or a rebuild, or quite possibly well overdue for an oil change, could be an electronic problem with the management computer, solenoids or electrodes. As for the petrol smell, that is probably just the fuel injection unit, sounds to me like it is running to rich, which could be fixed with a tune, or possibly electronic adjustments to the fuel injection unit, or replacement of the injectors.
It is probably worth getting the car checked out by a reliable mechanic, because the poor performance etc sounds like its just been neglected, because these cars are generally reliable they don't tend to die, they just drive like a crab.
