When I first bought this car from the dealer it had a gasoline leak, which they fixed for (almost) free. one of the main fuses blew and I lost power when I stepped on the brakes or turned on the headlights. the passenger side window didn't work, bad motor. the sunroof leaked. the rust holes in the back let dust into the interior when on dirt roads. the e-brake eventually stoped working. the front bearings went bad, and I had to replace the CV joints and boots. the muffler fell off, and the door handle broke off.
Despite all the problems with this car, I love it with all my heart. it was the
car I learned how to drive a stick-shift
in, and this car never failed me off the line, it was a rocket. it was the LS Special so it was black with gold rims and two-tone black and gold interior with the foam wing on the back.
For a small engine this car would still do 130, though it didn't really like to, and it handled well enough around tight corners at excesive speed. I finally had to let go of that car and I wish I hadn't cause I miss it a lot and won't find another like it. if you find one, buy it, fix it up, and keep it, it's a beauty.
I have owned an LS-SE for several years. It is a great car. I have the black version and have collected everything associated with the 88 model including the rare 1988 press release kit. I repair the car myself. I have the Factory Service Manual, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd printing. If you can find one jump on it. The black/gold is classic.
I just bought my 1988 SE (Black with gold rims) from my father who was the original owner for 20 years. The car is completely stock with the original paint job still intact. Only 133,000 miles on her and the interior is perfect. I love this car and wouldn't sell for the world...
This is to the person whom commented about having the '88 press release kit.
I don't know if you ever check back here or anything, but I've been dieing to get my hands on some of that literature. I had a black '88 LS-SE, 5 speed all original and in perfect shape right up to 200k when a clutch failure (original clutch btw) forced me to park it for good not having the funds to get it repaired at the time.
If you would like to share or sell some of that literature email me at somguyontheinternet at yahoo dot com.
