My head gasket blew at 98,000 miles.
Transmission begin slipping at 55,000 miles. The dealer replaced the neutral
safety switch.
Transmission slipping again at 135,000 miles.
Mass air flow sensor replaced at 148,000
miles.
Engine loose coolant have no idea where it goes. Must be the head gasket again.
This car is too unreliable to drive
long distances.
If you have transmission problems, please contact me at clipper@prostart.net.
I own a 94 T-bird with 125000 miles. Just drove from KS to VA in Jan of 2003.
If you are having head gasket problems it must be a v-6 and it's a common problem.
Transmission problems? Slipping at 55,000 miles and only replaced the safety switch? I would have found a new shop.
Replaced the mass air flow sensor? OK, well they do fail from time to time, I'd fail too at 148,000 miles.
I'd sell it now, but any transmission problems I would have found a quality shop or just had the thing totally replaced and bit the bullet on that one.
Need info on 94 LX Thunderbird transmission problem. I have a pushbutton switch for the overdrive on/off located on the floor shifter. This is an automatic transmission. The light in dash that says overdrive off does not come on and button does not work any more. Any suggestions on where to begin looking for problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have a 1994 Thunder-bird LX with the 4.6 liter engine with most of the problems described above however still enjoy the car. I am particularly interested in the comments concerning the overdrive button that is inoperative since I have that problem as well. I have checked all my fuses to no avail. The transmission is slipping a little and I will probably wait until the rebuild to get serious about a resolution. If anyone has any insight that may help in correcting the problem it would be greatly appreciated.
My '94 had the 3.8 replaced at 89,000 miles, before I got it.
500 miles later, the head gaskets went...$1200
Later, the transmission slipped randomly, going into neutral on the highway is scary...$1300, the O/D switch went 2 weeks later. (was told it was a small wire in the shift lever)
Mine rides like a truck, despite new struts & shocks.
In the "rust belt" here, the rocker panels rot off.
The rear end rumbled since I got it, at higher speeds.
I get the overall impression it was a "snap together" car from the factory... the worst Ford I ever had.
It currently sits in the driveway, until I can figure out why it won't start... at 151,000 miles.
I own a 1994 T-Bird with 150,000 miles on it. I only had 1 major thing go wrong with it in the past, the spark plug wires went out. I am experiencing a problem with the OD-Button on the shift lever, it no longer works. I'm on disability and cannot afford any expensive repairs and would truly appreciate any comments on fixing this problem.
I own a 94 thunder bird and I 've had the head gaskets blown... and last summer my transmission was shot so I dropped a new in there I just got my baby painted (thunder bird) put some letterman tires on it...it's a beauty... but my main belt keeps tearing I just have to change that before it tears again, but I have all ways loved my t-bird...rite now I drive it everyday and its only @ 115,256...
