Brakes have been replaced several times.
Head gasket blew at 180,000 miles.
The heating core needed to be replaced.
The module needed to be replaced.
Rotors needed to be replaced.
The material on the ceiling of the car has completely caved.
The directional needed to be repaired.
There is a lot of rotting taking place on the frame of the car.
Emergency brake needed to be repaired.
Several other problems as well.
This was a great car for a first time driver!
It was not until I reached 100,000 miles that I started running into mechanical difficulties with this car.
Chevy makes a very good product. There are very few 13 year old, economy cars that can reach 250,000 miles and still run strong.
I've decided to retire my old 89' cavalier though. It doesn't have the spunk that it once had and I would go so far as to say that it is almost dangerous to drive.
Even though I highly recommend this model. I think it would be a wiser decision to buy a newer version rather than a 1989. Basically because as a car gets older it will obviously have more mechanical problems.
I got a 89 cavalier z24 I bought it with 180,000 miles I've had a stretch of problem after problem, but now its running fine. My head gasket blew, and I had to get a new one and a new motor put in. I have a problem with water gettin in the distributor, and when it rains it starts sputtering and backfires sometymes. if anyone wants to have any comments to my car I'm me on aim @ studmuff14 I'm usually on around 9 pm every nite.
