"A man's car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Brakes wear down fast.

Windshield cracked in mid-winter 2000 - made a horizontal crack in the lower middle of the windshield.

Emergency blinker caused the turning signals not to function - a bypass solution was thought up by the dealer (didn't look nice - but it worked).

Steering wheel started to squeak when rotating fast many times at about 100000km.

Seats are on the edge of becoming uncomfy.

Dust enters the rear window-cleaner tank.

Car gets extremely hot in summertime, and extremely cold in the winter. A/C is useless.

A lifetime supply of hubcaps should come with the car - believe me, it needs it. Rain, rotation and salted roads has caused the hubcaps to bend and twist in all different directions.

Sliding door fell off.

General comments?

Although it has it's cons, it most certainly has it's pro's too - for instance it can carry just about anything, we fitted a 350kg oven in there without the car showing the slightest bit of notice.

You can also fit anything in it, no matter if you have 6 or 3 seats in it, I've gotten things in there others would lend heavy duty machinery to carry.

The car handles extremely well, I have taken turns with it that I would be afraid to take with, for instance a Toyota Hi-ace. The steering wheel is a dream to hold on to.

The car is definently made for real transportation purposes, no matter if it's people or cargo one carries, this car will haul it without any problems. But that brings up the cons that didn't fit under "what things have gone wrong...":

First off, the engine is extremely weak - and I'm talking EXTREMELY weak. The car is HUGELY underpowered, I often have to put the pedal almost to the metal (so to speak) to get it up hills.

The car runs at a ridiculous RPM. It's like 3500 when driving in 90km/h. Did I mention the redmarking starts at like 4500? A sad thing, I would never be able to take it up to 120 without blowing the engine to pieces... a shame indeed.

As you have figured, the engine is the main con here - it provides too little power. BUT - it always provides the same amount of power, no matter what or whom you're carrying. The rear axle can take a ridiculous load, and the car still acts as if it's empty. You have to be the judge of whether this is a good or bad thing, but I would say it's a good thing.

I love the H-100, it's fast enough - often I'm afraid to drive above the speed limit, due to the redmarking of the RPM - thus I won't get many speeding tickets.

The braking is excellent, even high speed brake riding doesn't really seem to change the effect provided by the brakes.

The car's a perfect summer car - hot and nice. Although for the rear passengers it tends to get a tad too hot, but for the driver - it's optimal heat.

The car is quite sturdily built. Although the sliding door fell off at a time, the car accelerates like crazy at low speeds and can really put on a show. This is why the car sucks in winter conditions, it gets stuck too easy.

Generally: If you need a car that will haul your cargo or yourself from A to B, and prevent you from losing your licence from speeding - this is for you. However - this is a car for the experienced driver, not some kid who just got his licence. One must care for the car and understand it. Also, when the transportation of goods or many people is not required, one should have a backup car that takes care of quick deliveries and speed thrills - cuz this car just ain' no speedin' champion :)

I have had two H-100 vans, both 1998 2.5 turbo diesel. I still have one as the the first on was stolen and never found.

Performance wise it will do just under 100mph or 160kph

The H-100 will carry an enormous amount of weight and the engine has been very reliable the van has done 77,000miles or 123,916kms and the only parts that have been replaced are radiator and all coolant hoses plus front brake pads and the rear axle input shaft oil seal.

In all I am very happy with the van I have even been camping in it and drove 900miles in a day with no problems at all.

Its not the fastest van out there, but look after it and it should last for ever.

I have a 2001 2.5 turbo diesel H100 and it is anything, but slow.

It has done 90000miles only needing a turbo pressure sensor and a water pump with a routine service every 6000 miles.

Only gripe I would have is genuine parts are a little expensive.

I've a 2000 h100 diesel 2.7 5spd man, I find this perfect for what I use it for I get 500ks per 40lts tank,so I find this economical, and it will sit on 110 120 nicely for my daily 5hr drives.

The H-100 (called Starex in the Philippines) is quite reliable when hauling cargo. It does well in terms of fuel economy. The letdown, like what others say, is the speed. It can accelerate quite well for a big vehicle, but it has some trouble reaching 110 kph for fear of exceeding the red line. Due to its enormous weight, trouble sometimes brew on its front suspension.

What is so impressive about this van is its roomy and well-styled interior. It has the best interior in its class (at least for those released here in the Philippines).

Overall, it's a nice family car, but if you're into racing, this guy can be beaten by about any vehicle worth its salt on the road.

First of all, I'd like to correct the earlier statement that the Hyundai H100 is also known in the Philippines as the Starex. The Starex is mini van and is currently referred to in Korea as the H1. The H100 is also known as "Grace" in the Philippines.

I have a 1997 2.5 diesel. Grand Saloon version if I'm not mistaken. The engine is very similar, but not exactly the same as the Mitsubishi L300 versa van. There are some differences with the specs of some parts.

My unit is also known in the Philippines as the "local version". Meaning that it was brought to the country as a brand new unit and the year model are limited to 1996 to 1998. The other units are referred to as "surplus". They were already used or even junked in Korea prior to being exported here.

I think this is the best Korean van as compared to the Kia Besta and Pregio and Sanggyon MB100. The Pregio really looks better, but performance wise I will not even trade my '97 H100 for a much newer Pregio. My brother-in-law has had 2 Pregios and the temp would easily shoot up in heavy traffic.

My H100 can stay for hours in super heavy traffic and the temp gauge needle would not even go past midpoint. I had driven in knee deep floods on several occasions and never got stranded with this vehicle. Handling is great, ride is just as good as in any other van. Parts are relatively cheap, but maybe not be as durable.

The hardest part to maintain is the air-con and is not as cool compared to an average car. The max speed I've experienced with this is about 105 KPH. Being that it's a van, I'm not that brave to venture beyond that.

Also, because it a van its not that aerodynamic, thus the strong wind resistance will really limit the speed and your MPG.

I'm just not too sure if it's a must to fit with "LT - light truck" tires. Maybe Passenger tires with good load handling would suffice.
