"Problem ridden vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The following is a list of problems I have had with my car:

The back seat filled with water when it rained. It took two trips to the dealership for them to fix the problem. The problem was that the manufacturer forgot to put the back panels in.

Replaced the battery at 25,000 miles.

Replaced the water hose and belt at 35,000 miles.

Replaced the brakes at 30,000 miles and 60,000 miles.

Would not shift into overdrive and shifted into second hard. Dealership believes that I will need a whole new transmission. This is at 65,000 miles.

The seals around the window are warped.

The cells for the clock and radio will frequently go blank or show random numbers.

When you turn the volume down the volume will go up first and then down.

General comments?

The longer I have this car the more problems I seem to have. The warranty was up at 50,000 miles therefore the dealership and Pontiac believe that they have no responsibility for all the problems I have been having. I have never heard of a well made car having the transmission go out at 65,000 miles. Most of the miles on the car are highway, there is no reason for the car to be having all the problems.

Other than problems listed above, I love to drive the car. It was the most comfortable to sit in a drive of all the ones I had tested. I bought it because of the comfort and the fact that my grandfather worked for GM. Too bad it has turned out to be a lemon. Due to Pontiac's response I will never buy another Pontiac.

Three months ago I purchased a 1999 Grand Am SE for my oldest daughter. This was a very clean and well kept looking car, and since it only had 48,000 miles on it, I figured on it giving 4 or 5 years of trouble free service, or at least enough to be good transportation as she begins college. I had the car 2 months when I had to replace the fuel pump ($550.00) and now the car is in the transmission shop in the process of a complete transmission job. The car is so new, availability of parts is a problem, and the whole job will probably run over $2000.00. With out a doubt, this is the worst car I have ever owned, and I will never again purchase a Pontiac product. I have a 1972 Chevy truck with 220,000 miles on it that is more dependable than this piece of junk. I don't know what the engineers at Pontiac are trying to do, but I hope they don't put their kids in a car they build, because a phone call from your own kid late at night stating "Daddy my car won't start" or "Daddy my car won't go" is not a pleasant way to spend an evening. (I have had both of these in just a 3-month period).

I too have a Pontiac. It is the worst car I have EVER owned. The light switch in the steering column area needs to be replaced (a $300.00 job), and also the fuel pump. The day after I bought the car, the starter went out. I should have realized that it must have been a "sign" for me to take the car back. I had a Mazda that I traded in for this piece of junk. I should have kept my Mazda!!

I have a 99 Grand AM GT, It has been a great vehicle except for the brakes making a noise which I replaced them with after market and they are great now. I have 76000miles on it, and for some reason this is the second time the upper and lower intake gaskets are leaking. If anyone has any suggestions for me please email JNickolas311@msn.com Thank you!

I have purchased a 1999 Grand AM SE off the floor and the only problem I had with it was only that I had to have the front brakes changed once since I had it. The disks were warped on it from the manufacturing of the disk. I need to replace the brakes again now since I have about 68,000 miles on it. The steering is a bit tight and the control of my car is a bit touchy. No problem here, all I need to do to fix it is add an anti-sway bar to the car. The problem with the radio going up before going down is normal with this type of radio. Other wise, it has been a good car to be with no other problems as of yet. Some tips on buying a used car. You never know what the person had done to the car or treated it when he or she had it.

I purchased my 1999 Grand Am "New". This has been a very good car, except for the following:

1.) Brakes kept going bad, until I replaced them with after market type brakes.

2.) As for all Pontiac cars; the door seals seem to wear out very quickly. This allowing the wind sound through out the car.

3.) The RADIO display goes wacky! The dealership has replaced the radio 3 times and it still does the same.

Over all this is a very comfortable vehicle, and gets great gas mileage for the size of the car.
