In the 2000 miles that I have owned the car:
Brake master cylinder needed replaced.
A/C expansion valve needed replaced.
A/C condenser needed replaced.
Transmission is slipping and needs replaced.
Cooling system has boiled over several times, even though I had it flushed.
Heater core hose sprung a leak - no auto parts store on the Internet or planet has one - need to go dealer - it's $108 to replace - it's a hose!
2 interior lights have fallen out of their sockets in the ceiling and are hanging by the wires.
Rear speakers stopped working on the stock radio.
This car is incredibly rare. It's very hard to find another one.
Because of it's rarity, the parts are very hard to find and ridiculously expensive.
The car drives wonderfully. It handles well and has plenty of power.
If you have plenty of extra money and a back-up car, this car is for you!
I am an unfortunate owner of a 93 passat glx, 5 speed. I have spent more money on trying to maintain this vehicle than it is probably worth. The latest problem is the transmission. Dealer told me transmission is gone and needs to be replaced for another $2800. Apparently transmission is dry of fluid, however, there is no way to check the fluid level and it must be put on a lift to fill? Have spent so much on the car now, not sure whether it is worth fixing again. I agree it looks nice, drives nice, but a rather expensive nightmare to maintain as only the dealers will service it.
Your Auxiliary Water Pump has failed. This will stress out everything else in your cooling system. To all owners out there: This is probably the most common problem with this car and most mechanics have no clue. You can Purchase this part on the net for 110.00 and takes 10 min to install. Very simple fix.
