Upon purchase of the car, the driver's side seat was broken (the back was on an angle causing much discomfort and forcing the driver to drive with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on the handbrake to prop themselves up)
The differential became noisy at around the 175000Km mark. This was a common skyline problem. However, this wasn't a great problem as you can drive on a noisy differential for a number of years, but when it came time to replace I did have plans to replace it with the differential from the Skyline Silhouette's as they were limited slip (and also were not subjected to the same problem as the regular skyline differential).
There was a slight jerk when changing from first gear to second, as this was a major characteristic of the series III automatic transmissions as Nissan attempted to give them a more "sporty" feel. At first it is annoying (and having all of your mates ask whether or not your car has slipped a gear is too), but it is something that is easy to get used too.
Other than these slight problems there has been nothing else wrong with the car, and it is currently in A1 condition!
Along with stylish looks (yes some people think the "boxy" look suits the car, myself included) it had performance, and lots of it.
If you're looking for power to go with a comfortable drive then this is the car for you.
Also if you can pick up one with less than 150,000K's then grab it as fast as you can (I currently have one with 120,000 on the clock in my sights, which I am praying will come through)
I'd suggest another stratergy if you think that buying a Silhouette diff will cure the noise problem. The limited slip diff suffers with the noise problem just like the other models. The most effective way to fix the noise is to make sure you take it to someone who knows what they're doing and that it is fitted with a brand new crown and pinion or better still buy a R32 GTS rear cut from an importer and replace the whole rear suspension system with the fully inependent Jap suspension.
Does the r32 rear end fit without major modds?
