The body control module went out. The following no longer work:
air conditioning; door locks; odometer; speedometer; steering wheel controls; lights; overhead counsel.
No car manufactured today is exempt from operational problems. However, from reading other Jeep Liberty comments, it sounds as though the 2002 Limited comes equipped with more than its fair share of 'bugs'.
The main complaint I have is not with the vehicle or the service department, but with Daimler Chrysler. For whatever reason, there is a national backorder on this part and according to the dealership, "there isn't a release date on this part yet." Does this mean Daimler Chrysler has not made a flaw-free replacement part (for the body control module) to date?
Still, I am completely enamoured with the vehicle. I just hope I can get it back from the shop soon.
Here's an update on my 2002 Jeep Liberty:
After 21 days in the shop, the dealership finally got a body control module in for my Jeep. The replacement part didn't solve the out-of-commission speedometer though, so another part was ordered. According to DaimlerChrysler, there is a software problem, whatever that means. After the second body control module was put in (the third to be in my vehicle) everything worked again. Yippie.
