Nothing has gone wrong, this is a very reliable SUV!
I have been driving my Suzuki XL7 for 6 months now, and I must say I am very impressed with it. For the money this is one heck of a Car with rear air conditioning, 16-inch aluminum wheels, and an AM/FM stereo system that includes an in-dash CD player.
Safety isn’t overlooked either with anti-lock brakes, fog lamps, and anti-intrusion bars in the doors.
I have the Automatic version with 4 Wheel Drive. I picked the XL7 mainly because I wanted a ‘Proper’ 4WD with low/high Range and a separate chassis.
I also looked at the Honda and the Mazda, but their 4WD SUVs are basically built for the suburbs rather than the rougher roads. Don’t get me wrong, performance on the Highway is just as important to me as efficiency on the rough stuff. The XL7 handles the Highway as well as a standard sedan, its V6 engine gives plenty of smooth power and the separate chassis ensures a quiet and smooth ride. Basically this SUV is the best compromise between a rugged SUV and a Sedan that I have ever come across.
I agree 100% with the Writers comments. My XL-7 is a very reliable and enjoyable SUV. It is quality built, and my wife says that she feels much safer driving it than she does our family sedan. Overall a very nice SUV.
I have now been driving the XL7 for one month now and I am very happy. The limited I purchased was totally loaded and for the price it can't be beat. The 3rd row bench is small, but for younger children it is much more comfortable than cramming them in a single back row (family of five). When all the seats are down, the cargo area is great. Gas mileage could be better (17 mpg on local) but after 1100 miles there has been zero problems. Time will tell on reliability, but when you weigh what you get for your dollar and Suzuki's warranty
This vehicle is a total disaster, period!
I have owned a Suzuki XL7 for 3 v. bad years.
It is damn scary in winter, the heating system sucks big time and if it weren't for the thing being leased I would be out of it. I owned Suzuki motorcycles for years and expected this to be of a similar quality. Sorry, next time I'll go back to either Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV.
So far there have been 2 recalls on this thing - one for a faulty accelerator and the other for poor chrome plating on the handles.
Adrian.
I all so own 2002 suzuki 2002 xl7. and you are right about the heater hooo- heat to the legs in winter. I stop diving it. back to the dealer. still like a dog breathing on your legs. cannot wait to get ride of it. nj spell.
It's all in the details.
So far I have been stopped in 3 states California, Nevada, and Idaho for faulty tail lights. Seems the bulbs won't stay in place and keep falling out. If the second engine, replaced by Suzuki, continues to work I may be able to sell it.
I bought my 02 XL7 Limited in June of 03 for a great price. After 17K miles, the engine had to be replaced and after 40K the timing chain tensioner had to be replaced after a long tedious diagnosis. Just for these two repairs alone, it has been in the dealer shop for more than 60 days!! Now the running boards are coming apart from the body and the dealer says there is nothing they can do to fix it??? Oh, wait.. they did say they could screw it to the body panel. WHAT? I didn't buy it with screws holding it on and I don't want it repaired that way either. This a border line Lemon in my opinion. Hopefully my lawyer will agree.
