"Liberty/Cherokee a lovely beast"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing.

General comments?

The Jeep Liberty is Called the new Cherokee in Europe, and I think it is worth the name.

It looks good, it feels good and it drives even better, lots of fun off road.

I choose for the diesel engine because diesel/petrol prices are sky high over here (nearly 5 USD per gallon) and the CRD is not so thirsty (32 mile/gallon) It is quite a powerful unit with a nice growling sound when you plough true mud.

I specially want to thank the Team who build my car 19th of February 2002 at 16.02, they did a great job.

Update:

I was very happy with my Liberty until I took it a little bit off the road and into one foot of water.

Water leaked from the underside into the interior and the whole carpet at both sides is soaked.

Result: 900 Pound of damage.

The Dealer does not want to help me because they do not believe me and think I went in deeper and they told me to contact my insurance.

I am very disapointed, this car looks though, but off road

it is a pussy.

Except for the guy who was responsible of sealing the floor pan, he needs a kick in the B****!

I have a 1980 IH. Scout diesel with just under 500K on it. I need to replace "Smudge" with something... I hoped the new Liberty would be it. I have a small ranch about 5 hours from where I live and will use the vehicle I buy for long highway drives, then for pulling out bushes, stretching barbed wire, pulling a trailer loads of gravel and that sort of thing.

Jeep is going to introduce the Diesel Liberty here in the US soon, and I don't know what to expect from the Mercedes made rattlebox.

I also do quite a lot of driving in the Mojave, Black Rock and Colorado Deserts... Not much ice or snow...Lot's of heat, sand, mud... Is this Jeep really good off road? Does it have the reliability of the old Mercedes of the '70s or is it a hot house orchid?

I hear great things about the handy rear door, how do you feel about this compared to a regular bench tailgate?

How about the rear bumper? Can one use this to pull anything? Need I order a receiver hitch or is it possible for a tongue hitch and tow/pull loop?

Is it big enough to sleep in on camping trips? I have known two people who have died in tent fires and have used my vehicle for the odd nights snooze... will the Liberty suffice? Is there much storage for tools, guns, odd gear so they are not out in the open?

I look forward to your reply and thoughts!

Cheers.

Hi there.

The Liberty CRD 2.8 will be a good choice, great on road and as good as a stock Cherokee off road.

So if you want to combine long highway trips with good off-road ability, the Liberty is the right choice.

The diesel engine is not the Mercedes unit, it is build in Italy by VM (a Daimler Chrysler company) and it is not only exceptionally strong it also is quite economical.

It is great in remote area's as you don't have to fill it up that often and it is also very reliable.

The rear tail gate is something you maybe have to get used to, I like it and it is the only way to have the spare on the back instead of it using loading space inside.

I think you will have to get a trailer hitch to pull things (trailer, bushes, wire) but you will not be disappointed, the pulling power of this engine combined with the weight of the Liberty will pull out tree trunks.

Just make a long test drive when it comes on the market because you can only decide for yourself if this is the truck for you.
