"The best car I'll ever own"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The best car I've ever owned (it's not an understatment). I just turned 16 the other day and am now allowed to drive it around the streets.

Ummmm.. it runs a 186s set-up with a two barrel stromberg that I put on myself - took me about 6 hours to do. She jumps off the start like a thoroughbred and stops like a rampaging elephant.

Cornering is her only fault (7 revolutions of the steering wheel will have her hard over - at least I'm a better arm wrestler now)!!

Only real fault is a bit of rust in the rear left door and on the lip of the bonnet.

Original iridescent gold paint - only a couple of chips and scratches.

Beautiful original interior, not a mark on her, original books and original tool kit!!!

If anyone can give any hints about lightening her steering without altering too much of her originality, please comment.

A beautiful original HR holden Premier. The best $2500 I ever spent.

General comments?

I have had three of these and still have two of those - one is a 186s.

The steering is able to be replaced by rack and pinion, but it is a heap of work and not really worth it. There are people around who have changed stuff in the standard steering box.

My advice is just to make sure all the ball joints and bushs are good and tighten the adjusting nut on the top of the box, a bit.

Holden actually made a power steering unit to suit the hr holden. You may be able to pick one up from HR PARTS AND STUFF in melbourne.
