"A cheap Honda killer"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

AC Belt broke at 102,100 miles.

Brake calipers changed at 102,235 miles.

Radio going bad.

General comments?

I bought this car in April of 2002 from some tuner for $3100. It needed a new muffler and paint, but the engine still runs great. The radio has problems, and the AC belt broke soon after. But for $3100, it was a bargain. The car handles very well, accelerate great, and is pretty quick off the line. Unfortunately mine did not come with a rear spoiler (The crescent shaped one) and I'm currently looking for one in the junkyard right now, and a new front rim, since the left side has a big dent.

Overall, the car is pretty much a 3000GT with Dodge's name all over it.

Dude, this car is crap. My Stealth ('93) had problems right after it hit the 70k mile mark. I don't blame Dodge, but Mitsubishi. They're the ones responsible for the car's engine and mechanicals. Too bad Dodge was stupid enough to bring this car under their name, since they had to lose a lot of money. If you really want to kill Honda Civics, get something like a 240SX; they last forever and can take a beating. Don't get me wrong, Dodge is a great car manufacturer (I now own a '99 Ram 2500 and I love it), but this car really kills their reputation. Anyways, hope yours don't end up in the junkyard like mine did :)

I don't think this car or the 3000gt is worth the trouble. if I were you i'll get a new car.

I love this car. I have a 1991 Twin Turbo of my own. She's high maintenance though. My car has just over 100 K and is now having several differentt problems (clutch, tranny, seals, gaskets, and oil cooloing line leaks) The engine still kicks like new and with the new clutch, tranny, belts, and a little TLC. She'll stomp walks all over Honda's and steps easily to to 5.0 Mustangs. I'm still looking to get a run for my money.

Dude, the 91' Stealth ES is an awsome ride. I have one, but its sittin in my garage as of right now. One of the Piston Rods in my engine blew and its goin to cost too much to fix it so I'm gunna put a new engine in my car. But, ill still give you my expirience with it. It has great low end torque and does the 0-60 in 7.0 flat. For a 3.0 V6, that's not bad. I must say though, I did get a reasonable offer when I bought it. I got it for 2,500. For being only 16, and being my first car, this was an offer I couldnt refuse. It is deffinitly a Rice killer though. I can stay under 4 RPMs and still beat rice off the line. I give this car an outstanding rating. Its fast, good mileage, and has an awsome feeling inside the car. Back to my engine... Have you ever heard of a Stealth ES with a Twin Turbo engine in it? Well, you will soon. I'm goin to put one in my car. Its the exact same engine size and I only need a few minor adjustments with the transmission and walla! Ill have 13.7 second car for a 1/4. That's not bad, plus, my car weighs about 600 pounds lighter than the car it comes in. Now if that's not power, I don't know what it is. STEALTHS RULE!

Re the above comment, your Stealth is a "rice-killer"?

Your car was built by Mitsubishi, which last I heard was a Japanese company. You are just as much a "ricer" as all those dudes in their Civics and Celicas.

The dodge Stealth is an amazing car yes people like the 3000gt more, but its the same car and yes the engine needs a lot of attention, but do a little research and engine work becomes easy. I currently own my second stealth first one I had was a 91 base this is a 91 Es so next will be R/T TT. I have owned a few V8's Firebird mustangs yes there faster stock, but this car is more fun and stylish with loads of potential.

I bought a '91 ES from my Grandmother in 2001. It only had 65k on it when I got it and it has taken me to 120k smoothly without much problem. I had a few minor thing go like my heat sensor for my radiator fan ($25) and my idol control servo ($200). I love my car! I'm actually about to put $2000 into the engine for new seals, timing belt, water pump, and a/c compressor (I'm having it switched to the new system too) but any car with 120K on it is going to need these things done. She still runs like a champ engine and transmission going strong!

Okay, about putting a TT engine in your E/S you are never going to get traction and 600 lbs lighter? They didn't put in the AWD for nothing. With out the AWD your car will just be a stealth with a traction problem. Mitsubishi also got rid of all the bugs that dodge didn't in there 3000 GT don't get my wrong I love the stealth too I've put in a new transmission in mine already and the engine's seeming to put out for me she's running 149,600 miles, but still blows the doors off any cavalier. If you want a stealth that's not so much a rice burner put a 440 in it. I've seen it done. Just buy a custom drive shaft and then put in a 727 tranny and 3.73 gears in the rear differential be cheaper if you have the time to do it on your own. http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=244424&page=2&pp=10 copy and paste that into your url address and take a looksie. ~Woody.

Let me just say that I have always loved stealth's and 3000gt's.So this summer I got a 1991 dodge stealth r/t for $4400.I'm 15 and this is my first car and so naturally I'm very happy. I have heard that they will have problems if not maintained correctly though. But so far I have not had any problems. It doesn't have the original motor in it though so maybe the previous owner had a problem. All I know is that the car has 78,000 miles on it and the engine has around 42,000 miles on it. It is an automatic, but it still pulls very hard. I have beaten an early 00's model Nissan altima, an old Buick, a 92 jeep 4.0 liter, and a 92 cavalier z24.Overall I am very happy with this car!

Rice killer, its funny you should mention that, I was in my Stealth a few weeks ago and some kid in a stupid looking Honda pulled next to me and revved his engine and was giving me the 'lets race' deal. I shrugged my shoulders and ignored him. For who? For what? Either get a better looking car, one that could actually give me a run for my money or don't waste my time. Stealth's Rule!

Please be more specific as to what kind of Honda it was. All Hondas are stupid looking, so it could have been anything.

Its funny you say it's a rice killer when most if not all of the car is built by Mitsubishi, a Japanese company lol.

The idea of a stealth with a 440, 727 torqueflite tranny and 3.23 gears in a rear differential sounds pretty boner inspiring to me...

I Own a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T, pearl white and it's an amazing ride. People that are saying the stealth is a problem car and whatever, YOU ARE TOTALLY WRONG. If you do your 60k tune ups and check all of the oils and change them on time, this car should last you ages. I owned a 93twin turbo and I got 120k without many problems. All I had go wrong is the AC, rims, radio, antenna, transmission and little things like that. NOTHING huge because she was well maintained. I got 250k before the engine went. Now my 91 r/t has 187k and the engine is as strong as ever.
