"Outstanding high performance vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

No problems the last two and a half years.

General comments?

Outstanding looks and performance.

This is the 14th Corvette I have owned and the best one so far.

Drove it cross-country last year and got a high of 33 miles per gallon (6-speed transmission). It averaged 29.5 for the whole trip. Not bad for a car that will run the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds and has a top speed of 175 MPH.

Actually, 13.5 in the quarter is a bit conservative for a LS1 'Vette - try high twelves.

Consider yourself lucky, as I was not. My 2000 came out of the chevy parking lot brand new, and should've gone to the wreck-yard. The car performs great, but the quality, fit of interior is the poorest of most cars on the roadways. What's the deal with a plastic body? Mine was a death trap, should someone in a Yugo plow into me. I traded mine in for a CLK430, which is a much better quality, sporty car with practicality, which the vette ultimately lacks. I would never buy or encourage one to be bought. This is one I wouldn't miss if it were discontinued.

The guy with the big complaints must be a bit slow.

The interior can be assessed by inspection - take a test drive, sit in one. It's a matter of taste.

As for the plastic body, you must be the only person in the world who bought a 'Vette without knowing what is was made of.

It's a Corvette, not a Fiero.

No corvette can achieve 33mpg!

The simple displacement of the engine (V8) is proof.

Your fuel gauge is uncalibrated or your reading the gauge upside down etc...

Doh, even the MPG sticker presented on the window from GM will state 15-18mpg regardless as to city or highway driving.

"the simple displacement of the engine is proof"

No it isn't. You'd be surprised on the highway with a 6 speed transmission. I beleive the guy if he kept the car at 65 or 70 in sixth gear that he got 33 mpg because the gearing is so tall (allowing the vette to hit 150 no problem of course). I've also heard from camaro owners with the LS1w/6 spd that they have gotten mid to high 20s during highway driving.

Forgot to mention the engine rpms...

If at normal highway speed in sixth the engine is near idle rpms.

Speaking of V-8's and fuel consumption, my 1991 Caprice with a 5.7 gets 26MPG on the highway at 65MPH with cruise control on.

All because of the 2.56 rear gears.

I just sold my 2000 Vette and bought a 2006. It was a fantastic car. I had the Z51 Suspension package as well.

The only problem I had was an issue with the fuel gauge. In the summer time, when the tank got a little bit below half, it would sometimes just go all the way to zero. Strange!

As far as fuel economy, I averaged right around 22.5 MPG between highway and city, but would often see around 28-29 on the highway if I didn't go over 70 or 75.

Otherwise, the car was pretty flawless. Loved it to death -
