The only complaint I have had with this car is that the heat shield rattled, but I fixed that in about 5 minutes.
This is a great car. I must have got lucky I guess after reading all of the other reviews. It a very quick car for the engine size. I owned a 94 thunderbird sc (supercharged) and this car is alomst as fast, But I also have the DOHC engine with a 5speed tranny, which isn't very common among neon's.I have also notice that all the problems with these cars are with the SOCH with auto trannies. Because so far I have not had one problem.
I worked at Dodge and that DOHC engine is common and its also trash like the sohc we have had nothing but problems from that car since it came out, watch out for the head gasket.
Other than the head gasket going out I have had no problems. I bought my neon with 55,000 miles and now it has 108,000. After finding the right combonation of after market performance products, I am very impressed with the increased HP. I run my engine at high RPM and I have no problem out performing most other 4-cylinder cars. If you take care of your car it will give you minimal problems besides, Dodge should have had a recall on the neon's headgasket. I'm very happy with my 5-speed neon.
The neon has been nothing but a money pit, Blown head gasket, New engine, Paint chipping, Power steering problems, ect, ect, ect. Don't waste another penny on this piece of garbage.
I have a 1996 Neon Sport: nothing but problems. The head gasket, power steering, brakes, and most of all, the paint. My car was a nice blue when I bought it; now its grey rust. This car is a piece of crap! I wouldn't wish this car on my worst enemy.
